The Battle

406 10 1

The mirror on the bathroom wall
It shows the truth
The dark truth

In the mirror I see a girl
Decked in white
The bags below her eyes,
Have drooped lower
Have darkened

Her arm is raised
It carries a flag
A white flag

Like the British at
The battle of Yorktown
She wants to wave it
To surrender

But there's a masked figure
A hero
That's holding her arm still
Close to taking the white flag away

Every morning
I watch the mirror
Waiting for the battle to end
The battle between the girl in white, and the masked hero
Between surrender and hope
Between life and death
