It was a struggle having to carry Danny all the way back to the house, but Levi had did it. The whole time Johnny followed behind asking questions but never got answers. I was unable to talk. All I cared about was getting Danny back to the house so that we could call for help. I needed Danny to be alive. I shouldn't have gone into that stupid forest. I should have listened to the warning, but I didn't and now I'm paying the price.
'Stay out of the forest.' Played through my head. It was as if his warning was mocking me for the stupid choice I made.
"I should've listened." I muttered to myself.
"Listened to what!" Johnny seemed to be a bit frantic and frustrated.
"Get the door, Lyssa." Levi demanded. I hadn't even noticed we were back home, but I did as he said. As soon as I opened the door I was greeted by laughter coming from Krissy. She sat on the couch watching some show that was on the television. As soon, as she heard the door open she turned around and began to speak.
"Wow, you guys di-" she stopped as she took in the paralyzed site of Danny in Levi's arms.
"Daniel!" she rushed over to Danny, before scooping him up in her arms and falling to the floor from the weight of him. She rubbed his face while the tears streamed down her eyes.
"We need to call-" I was cut off as she looked up from Danny with eyes full of hate directed toward me.
"You!" she yelled, her voice full of anger.
"You did this to him!" she cried.
"No, Krissy, it wasn't her." Johnny began to speak.
"It was him." Levi spoke up looking at Krissy.
"Don't try to defend her!" she exclaimed. "And don't act like you don't know who 'him' is. Weren't you sent here to protect us!" I looked at Levi confused as to what she was talking about.
"Yes." he responded numbly.
"Then why is Daniel like this?" She began to sob. Levi said nothing, only watched as she began to break down. Johnny stood next to him looking every bit confused as I was. Did Levi know what it was that did this to Danny? What was he protecting them from and how can he protect them when he's only 17? Krissy looked back up at me before she began to speak.
"If I had never answered the door that day, or shut the door when he asked me, maybe my sister, Ana, would still be alive and maybe Daniel wouldn't be like this. Maybe my husband would still be alive. You have brought nothing but death to this family. You are killing everyone and yet don't even realize it." I could feel more tears begin to build up behind my eyes. What did she mean? I didn't kill anyone. I had only been a victim of their deaths, just like she is.
"Wha-"
"They knocked on my door, a man, and there you were in his arms looking so innocent. You were already eight months. He said he was a friend of Aiden's. I thought it was weird considering I have met all of Aiden's friends, but I let him go on anyway. He said that he needed help, that he couldn't take care of because of things that may put your life in danger. He asked if Andrew I would take care of you, but he warned me that if we chose to take care of you our lives would be put in danger.
I told him that Aiden was at work, and that I would have to talk to Aiden about this when really that was me telling him no, but he begged and pleaded. He said that if I didn't do it our lives along with many other lives would still be in danger. He said that something big was to happen and that you were the key, " she looked at me with a distant look in her eyes.
