A good dream is mankind's only solace from reality, whether it be the kind that graces their sleeping moments or the daydreams that consume the harsh daylight hours, making them more manageable. No matter how hard life seems to be, no matter what plagues the thoughts of all humanity like a fog descending before the downpour, if they can just keep a steady dream in their hearts they will find a way to make their cherished places a reality. Yes, Claire is certain that humans live to dream, and right now dreaming is all she wants to be doing.
She wants to feel the aesthetic of her fantasies, to be wearing some silk nightgown as she sips wine from a crystalline glass. She longs to kiss her girlfriend goodnight, her scarlet lipstick coloring her love's like roses. Then, she wishes she could guide her beloved to a king-sized bed with satin sheets and pillows so soft they feel like clouds, sinking into the mattress as her companion settles beside her, their cat coming and laying between them.
In this scenario, she sighs, and when her only asks her what is wrong, she only replies, "Nothing my dear, I am just so content in this moment, I never wish it to disappear."
They kiss again, ever passionate, and she can smell the lilac perfume on her angel's neck as they take solace in one another's company. Oh, how grand would such a moment be; someday she hopes this might be a reality.
However, currently, she is sitting on the kitchen counter in their apartment. She is wearing worn out pajamas, and she hasn't showered in three days so her hair is in tangles and it's entirely too greasy. Her little kitten Parsnip is asleep in the other room, and her girlfriend is on business in Europe: thousands of miles away from their home.
She swings her legs back and forth, making what she thinks is a 3/4 timing as she clicks her heels against the cabinet, and listens to her beloved's voice over the phone. The voice could be that of a goddess, soft and soothing with a pleasant higher pitched tone that Claire often compares to windchimes in the summer breeze.
"Everything's great here, but well...Paris is lovely and all, but I want to be with you," she says this last part quietly, and Claire can sense the unmistakable trace of worry. The trace is gone in an instant, however, and she can practically hear the smile in her lovely's voice. "I can't keep kissing my pillow goodnight! My coworkers will ask me who I'm missing, and then I'll have to tell them how amazing my goddess of a girlfriend is and then they'll know I'm the biggest lesbian in this world! It'd be disasterrific!"
"Melainaaaaaaa!" Claire protests, her face heating up as blush frosts her cheeks like flowers grace the world in the spring. She grins then, laughing at her own joke as she tries to speak. "Well, don't be worried love. I'm getting bi well enough until you return to my arms."
Melaina snorts then, letting her lively giggles travel halfway across the world to settle on Claire's ears, causing her to reciprocate in kind. Surely, there is no better use of the technology given to them than to just laugh together, the most wholesome of activities that they take so much pleasure in. After all, no matter how much they miss one another, everything is okay so long as they are laughing.
"Awe shit I gotta go!" Melaina curses and Claire can imagine her girlfriend checking her wristwatch far too easily. "I have a meeting in twenty-five minutes, and it's like midnight there; I KNOW you should be asleep!"
"Aah! You caught me!" Claire pouts. "Alright, I love you, my goddess!"
"Aah! Stop you're making me blush!" Melaina protests. "I love you too, angel. Tell Parsnip I love her, bye!"
As she hears the phone disconnect, her portal to Paris disappearing along with that precious voice she so cherishes, she lets out a sigh and can feel the loneliness consume her. She knows that she won't be alone much longer, just a few more days, but that time seems like it could be a thousand centuries.
