As soon as I woke up, my eyes were met with a blinding florescent light. Wait, what? What's going on here? I had no idea where I was and...wait. My eyes adjusted to the right and I lifted my head to look beside me. I was attached to various machines which were making the most obnoxious beeping noises ever. A small, short table next to the bed I was laying on was covered in flowers and cards.

"Love?" A rough, tired voice sounded on my other side and I turned my head.

"Lou?!" I exclaimed. His eyes were wide and he just sat there for a second. Then his entire face lit up and he grinned. "El! You're..you're up!"

"Why wouldn't I..wait..Lou, what happened?" I practically shouted, urgency blocking out the fear in my voice.

He cleared his throat. "Urm...I'll explain in a minute. I really need to let the nurse know you're up..Will you be ok here by yourself for a few?" I nodded and he left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

For the first time, I was aware that I couldn't feel anything below my neck. I looked down at my hands and wiggled my fingers, or at least attempted to. Nothing happened, literally nothing. I could've been made of stone. El, calm down. I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explanation for this. Even as I tried to calm myself down, I felt my breathing get quicker and I started to get hot, as if I had a fever. The first signs of a panic attack..I tried wiggling my toes, bending my arms, shuffling my legs, but still nothing. I was just starting to feel dizzy when Louis walked in the room, a nurse in tow.

"Louis!" I cried, thoroughly panicked now. "What's going on?!" I barely remembered anything, the last thing I remember was driving and then...everything went black. Had I gotten in a car wreck? That had to be it. But, why couldn't I move?

Louis walked over and sat in the chair next to my bed and placed his hand on my cheek. "Erm, there was an accident...you were in a car wreck and went into a coma. We started to think you weren't going to wake up..." He trailed off as his voice thickened. For the first time I noticed how badly groomed he looked. His hair was messy (and not in the way he liked to style it), and he looked as if he hadn't shaved in a week. His eyes were puffy and red with dark circles underneath them.

"Excuse me ma'am, erm...what exactly is the problem?" I asked. "I'm awake, aren't I?"

"Well, when you've been in a coma so long, there's got to be something wrong.." she replied.

"Wha..how long have I been asleep?" I asked, beginning to panic.

"It's been 3 months, Ms. Calder."
