When I Grow Up

IT'S TODAY!!!!! Today is the day Mrs.Carter said she would be giving my Grade 3 class our very first assignment of the year. I'm so excited. I hope she hurries back from the printer room so I can see what it's about, Mrs. Carter said it will be fun. I turn to sit facing Mrs.Adams and say "Mrs. Adams whats taking Mrs. Carter soooo long" Mrs. Adams replies "Mackenzie I know your excited sweetheart but she only left a couple of minutes ago but don't worry she won't be long" just as she finishes speaking Mrs.Carter walks into the room and sits down in her chair at the front of the class and smiles at us "Okay so I know most of you are excited for your first assignment and trust me it's fun, I'm going to explain what it is and then hand out the sheets but most of the work will involve you thinking about the future." As Mrs.Carter is handing out our assignment sheets she explains to us the assignment " You must think really hard about this class, I want you to make a presentation on what you wanna be when you grow up, You must include some pictures and tell us how you are going to do it." I think my brain is going to explode I have so many things I wanna be. Last time I was asked this was in daycare and at that time I wanted to be a princess but I realize now that is not happening. The rest of the day goes by very quickly and I most likely didn't learn much as I was in my own world thinking about the future.  As the last bell rings signalling it's the end of the day I head to my hook outside the classroom and get my backpack and jacket. When I reach Nana's van I excitedly jump in and put my seatbelt on with a huge smile. In the mirror at the front of the van I see Nana looking at me "Mackenzie how was school today, did you learn anything new?" I reply with the regular "good and no nothing new." but before she can pester me with details I excitedly say "Nana we got our first assignment of the year today! We have to make a presentation about what we wanna be when we grow up and I know exactly what I am going to do."  "Oh really well what is miss Mackenzie going to do when she grows up" I sit up straighter trying to look taller and reply " I am going to be a animal rescuer. I am going to have my own rescue and in the rescue building there is going to be a grooming place for animals and as well as a vet which I am going to be." Nana looks very shocked at my response "Mackenzie that sounds amazing, but what about your skating?" I never thought about that I guess I'll have to figure it out. When we finally reach home after Nana's 1 million tasks I run in the door to tell Papa the exciting news. When I get inside Papa is not in his usual place I set my backpack down and head down the hallway since I hear something. When I reach outside the bathroom I hear something that makes the sound I make when I'm sick. I go to open the door but before I open it the door is replaced with Papa's stomach. The bathroom smells horrible and I feel like I'm going to be sick. I look up at Papa and he's pale but is smiling at me. He pushed me back towards the living room and sits in his favourite grey lazyboy chair. Papa doesn't look to go so I turn to head to my room when he catches my arm and pulls me into the chair tickling me. He finally stops to let me breathe "Hi Peanut what has you so excited that you come running in the house and not listening to Nana" I give one of my sheepish smiles and tell him about the assignment and what my plans are.  Papa smile grows bigger as I explain to him every detail I have thought of "well Mackenzie that's an amazing idea, when is it due?" I run to by backpack and pull out my agenda bag and hand papa the assignment sheet. Papa reads the assignment most likely to make sure I didn't lie since I sometimes lie so then I don't have to do homework I hate homework I hate sitting still at the table. When he finished he then explains to me that it is due next week so I better start. The rest of the week plays out like normal and I work very hard on my cardboard presentation. I am very excited to share with the class my dreams.
