The walk home was really awkward. I usually wait for Alex and Anna so we can go home together, but this is different. Jack decided to stop by the convenient store so I decided to wait for him outside.

'You should just walk away,'

The voice in my head started to talk again.

No

I mentally told the voice and began to block the insults. Jack then came out of the convenient store with a bag full of stuff.

"Do you want to, maybe go to the park to eat all these sweets?"

I was taken back. This is the first time someone wanted to genuinely spend time with me, besides Alex and Anna. Jack noticed my expression that caused him to go red.

"Sorry that sounded weird,"

Jack said as he began to rub his nape again. I began to tuck a hair strand behind my ear.

"No, no, it's okay. I accept your request."

Jack looked at me with excitement and pulled me to the nearest park. To be honest I'm surprised his hand hasn't been frozen on the spot. The park happens to be close by my neighborhood so I guess I will be home much more sooner than what I wanted. We sat down on a nearby picnic table and Jack began to organize the sweets. It varies from hard to chewy candy, sweet and sour, and chocolate. I wonder how much he spent just to have the table be covered in candy.

"So, which one do you want to eat first?"

He said as he placed his hand on a gummy bear bag. I hesitated on getting a chocolate bar, and I look up at Jack.

"Go on, I bought enough for the both of us,"

I grabbed the chocolate bar and began to eat it. I haven't had chocolate in a while.

"Now that we are enjoying our first piece of candy, it is time to know each other,"

I arched an eyebrow at him.

"So, Elsa, what is your favorite season?"

I look up and sighed.

"I love the season of winter, when the snow is fresh and the air feels nice to breath in."

I have a smile on my face due to the moment I saw snow for the first time.

"How about you? What's your favorite season?"

He then began to smile.

"I love winter as well. Unlimited snowball fights, and best of all, no school, just snow days,"

I nodded and continued to eat my chocolate bar. Jack then looked at me.

"Why are you targeted at school?"

I flinched at the question. I guess he saw my reaction and began to ruffle his hair.

"I'm sorry, I bet that's very personal."

I look at him and sighed.

"Pitch caused it."

"Who is this 'Pitch' guy?"

"He's a bully."

He looks at me, waiting for the rest of my story.

"It started back in elementary school, precisely fifth grade. I happen to meet Alexandra, who helped a lot, which explains why she's over protective."

I look over at him. He nodded for me to continue.

"A boy by the name Pitch Black, approached me, with a flower, confesses his feelings to me before we even promoted to middle school. I rejected his confession. He was furious with the response. When middle school arrived, I became the laughing stock. Pitch had spread rumors of me that I really don't want to mention. I was surprised that Alexandra sticked with me even though it was harming her as well. One day Pitch began to follow me everywhere I go. He knows something that he is holding it against me. Since then, I never shown anyone the good side of me. Our classmates gave me nicknames that has sticked with me, the snow queen, ice queen, and other sorts of names. Today, Pitch came up to me, threatening me that he will tell everyone if I don't agree to date him."

I never noticed that Jack gave me a hug. It felt weird that it's someone else than Alex or Anna. But I gave in and let a tear roll down my cheek.

"Elsa, I promise you, you won't be hurt anymore,"

Hearing this from him made me feel warm, but I wasn't ready to trust him fully. I pulled away and look at Jack, concerning over my well being.

"How can I be so sure, soon you'll be part of the bullying as well, will you live with it?"

Jack sighs, wipes the tear from my cheek, and smiles.

"If it means for you to be my first friend in a new school, then yes."

Why?

Why is he being nice?

'Because he sees a pathetic girl who cuts for attention. Pity.'

I then shook my head. Jack seemed to notice.

"Are you okay?"

I nodded. I really don't want him to know that I have conversations with the inner voice in my head. I then reached over for the fruit taffy. Jack did the same only to reach for the jawbreakers.

"So, Jack,"

He hummed in response.

"What was that song about?"

I heard him gulp.

"I hear it years ago, from a man with a guitar. He had his daughter with him and sang that song to her."

He began to place the jawbreaker in the wrapper. He then sighs.

"I like the song that I even sang it to my little sister, Emma."

So he has a sister, that's why he isn't as rude.

"My sister is suffering with leukemia ever since she was 5 and she will always ask me to sing that song to her before I leave the room. She's 12 now, but I'm not there for her anymore."

Jack then rubbed his eyes before his tears rolled down his face. He looks at me and smiles.

"I should take you with me when I see her soon,"

He then placed the jawbreaker in his pocket.

"You know, I really enjoy your company even though we just met today. Today was fun,"

I, for the first time in my life, felt happy with someone new. I usually shut people out but he's different. He looks away and rubs his nape.

"Thank you,"

Jack then turn to me.

"For what?"

I look and smiled at him. The first time I smiled at anyone except Anna and Alexandra.

"Not being part of the bullying,"

He then smiles and looked up at the sky.

"No, thank you,"

I looked at him shocked.

"What for?"

He grins and laughs.

"For believing in me."
