Glancing out towards the dock, Leigh looks over at her mother and father smiling at each other towards the other end of their boat. She can hear them whispering to each other about nothing in particular. She enjoys seeing her parents so happy, they never really fought about anything serious and she was grateful not to have a family like that.
Jason, her older brother, places his hand around her shoulders, “They really love each other, ya know?”
She smiled, “Yeah.”
Her twin siblings walked up behind both of them, putting their hands together and pushing them into the water.
“Mikey!” Jason yelled the same time Leigh yelled “Jamey!”
The twins laughed and slapped hands before reaching out to pull them up, but the older siblings had other ideas as the pulled their hands towards them. They came crashing into the water with gasps and laughs.
“What are we going to do with them?” Monique laughed, pointing towards their splashing kids in the lake.
“We could just leave them here?” Jonas winked as he walked towards the other end of the boat.
“Hey!” Jamey yelled from the water.
“We can hear you!” Mikey rolled his eyes.
The kids climbed up the latter to get back onto the boat, “So are you ever going to tell us if it’s a boy or a girl?” Jason asked while Leigh rubbed her mother’s pregnant belly.
“Actually, I was going to tell you guys tonight.” Monique smiled at her children.
“Three boys and one girl, if you tell me it’s another boy, I’m jumping off the boat and not coming back.” Leigh joked with her parents.
Her brothers rolled their eyes and jokingly tried to push her back in the water, but she just stuck out her tongue.
Their parents rolled their eyes at their children, “So do you wanna know or not?” Jonas asked with a bit of an attitude.
His wife pushed him gently, “Shush Jonas, they can have a little fun. So, drum roll, please?”
Jonas smiled and tapped his hands up and down on her belly like a drum, “We’re having a...”
“GIRL!” Monique yelled as she grinned from ear to ear.
Leigh squealed, “YES!”
The fireworks exploded from the sky, “Happy Fourth my beautiful children!” Monique said hugged all of them in one big hug.
The family sat on their boat and watched the rest of the fireworks before heading back to their home.
“Guys why is the living room light on?” Jonas asked his kids with a tint of disappointment in his voice.
“I swear we turned it off before we left. I remember because afterwards Jamey ran into the couch.” Mikey defended.
