Chapter Two

I never thought that I would have to make such a huge decision regarding my family's wellbeing. I mean, we were the typical "perfect family"- one boy, one girl, a cat, the whole works. So what made me special?

Still refusing to accept that this was actually happening, I created a group message with the five of us that were given this challenge.

guys, what are we fooing to dk?

Realizing my spelling errors, I sent another message.

Sorry, I'm a bit on edge. I'm panicking. Is this real??

Each second that passed threw me deeper into the pit of insanity. I had no idea what I was going to do about this! What was going on? Why was I "chosen"? How can one person be in charge of the date of humanity? Questions kept piling up inside my head, and with no one to physically speak to about it, my brain felt on the verge of exploding. Bouncing my legs frantically, I hit refresh on the conversation for the fourth time in two minutes.

Ginaaaa: I dont no what's going on. I'm only 9! Why won't my family wake up Evieblue?

I bit the inside of my cheek. What kind of person would do this to a kid? Judging by the other Awake's profiles, they were all 17-19, around the same age as my 19 year-old self. I hit reply.

Hey Gina, it's going to be all right. K? I think we just have to do what that person said. We can make it like a game, okay?

Gina: okay.... but I'm scared! Can you come be with me?? Your the only person who has answered me and I'm really really scared right now

My eyes started stinging and I angrily brushed the tears away. Whatever this was, this asshole had scarred poor Gina. What could a 9 year old have to do with anything life threatening? I hit reply again.

It's okay Gina. I'm scared too! I'll try to come and see you when I can, okay? I'll find a way to get us through this.

I checked the original post once more before throwing my phone on the table. Two people had commented:

screw you. I'm not playing your twisted game

and

whatever. I'm chill either way so do whatever bro

The remaining boy, Luka, had commented "I accept." I typed my short reply and finished wiping my eyes with my shirtsleeve as I hit send.

I accept. Bring it on, asshole.
