P.O.V. CLARKE
i awake with a thud , I open my eyes slowly letting them adjust to the light. I sit up in the passenger seat in my moms car. I look at my mom with a tired expression. "Hey baby, sorry to wake you but, we are almost to the new neighborhood." She says. That's when I remember that I'm moving. *sigh*. I hate moving with a burning passion. Ever since my dad died 1 years ago from a car crash it's never been the same in our big, lonely, house with just my mom and I. We couldn't handle all the questions and all the explaining we had to do. My mom suggested we move to a new town in Maryland, where we could both get a fresh start in at a new life.
I let out a slight sigh and my mother gives me a sorrowful look. I turn my head to look out the car window. "Honey I know it's gonna be hard to make friends and to adjust and all but, this is what your father would have wanted .." she pauses " For us to move on with our lives and be strong." Tears threaten to fall from my eyes but I quickly blink them away. "I don't want to move on." I grumble and rest my head on my arms. my dad was my best friend. He was there with me for everything..heartbreak, school dances, princess themed tea party's he hated! That made me laugh a little. it's going to be so hard without him, again, this year. but I will be strong for him. I look up at the sky and wonder if he's watching over me. I love you, dad.
I return my attention to the busy sidewalk of people jogging in workout clothes and children riding their bikes and skateboards. The kids look so young and innocent. The houses we pass along the way are fairly large but not as large as my last house. I look back at my mom who is focused on the road. I shift in my seat and turn on the radio to fill the uncomfortable silence. One of my favorite songs called "all the small things" by blink 182, comes on. I love that band, so I turn up the tunes. Relaxing back in my seat, my mom speaks up, "Alright our house should be up this way." She says pointing to a neighborhood sign that reads
" green meadow point "We turn into the neighborhood hood and continue down the long road until our house. We pull up in our long drive way. I pear out my window and see a huge bright yellow and white colored house with flowers decorating the entire front pouch and the stone brick path leading to the street. Maybe moving won't be so bad.
My mom lets out a gasp. "It's even prettier in person!" She beams. " it really is" I say agreeing. We both hop out the car . I stretch my whole body and let out a big sigh. I rub the back of my neck because it's sore. That's what I get for sleeping in the car. " Clarke, come help me with the bags, please." She says. " the moving truck shouldn't be too far behind." "Okay." I walk to the back of the car and grab the suitcases my mom handed me and set them on the lawn for now. I suddenly realized I left my cat, daisy, all copped up in the backseat. I open the back seat door and pick her up. "Hey dais.." I say while petting the sticking up ,grey, fur from the car ride. I quickly set her down in the grass. " Hey mom, I'm going to go take a peek inside the new house." "Okay hun." She reply's. I walk up the front steps and open the glass door. I get the key from under the Mat. I unlock the white wooden door, and it slowly creeks open. "Creepy.." I cautiously say. I turn around and scoop up daisy . " you better fight off the ghosts if this place is haunted." I tell her. She just yawns, which is a adorable. I walk in the house and turn on the light by the door way. It wasn't that dark in here, considering it was 4 p.m.
I head towards the cream carpet set stairs leading to the second story, which our bed rooms are located. I go down the long hallway and reach a room, I open the door and see a large living space. 4 windows covering the 2 outside walls. I walk around the room and see a fairly large closet with a matching bathroom beside it. I head out the room and explore down the halls some more with daisy still in my hand.
After I searched around the whole house I went outside to help my mom bring some box's in from the moving truck that just arrived. I squeeze past the big muscular men that worked for the moving company , carrying our furniture. I take some boxes from the lawn from earlier and head inside to my room. My bed was already set up due to the workers and for that I was grateful I didn't have to put it together myself. I set some boxes on the wall of my room. Firstly I take my bedding and sheets and pillows out and arrange on my bed the way I like. I hang pictures around my white walls and unpack all the boxes. By the time I'm done it's 9:00 p.m. and I'm exhausted I collapsed onto my soft bed and into the covers. I don't bother to change because I'm too tired. I reach and turn my lamp off to sleep. It doesn't take long before I'm drifting into darkness with the last thought in my head. I hope my new school is not bad tomorrow.
