I shove my bags into my car and slam the trunk. I clamber into the driver's seat and quickly shut the door. Right before I start up the car my mom comes running out of the house.
"Emma, please don't leave - you're just angry and you're in shock; you need time to process this and to work through it!"
"No Mom," I say flustered, "I just need time away."
She leans in the window, "Honey, what you need is to talk to her, work this out. Don't worry about him, he's jerk, but she's your best friend; you need to talk to her. Please stay," she begs.
I pause for a moment, assessing my options: stay and face those traitors every day for the remainder of senior year, or get away and leave it all behind.
I shove my keys into the ignition.
My mother's face displays a pained expression, her hope for me staying has washed away completely.
"See you soon," she says. It's phrased like a statement, but given the context it becomes a question.
How long will I be gone?
The answer to that I'm not sure of, but I know that I'm definitely in no hurry to return.
"I'll call you," she says sadly.
I nod, "Bye mom, love you."
She waves as I pull out of the winding driveway, leaving my mom, my home, and hopefully all my problems behind me.
