Chapter 1

13 years later

James prov.

The snow makes a quiet crunching sound breaking the morning silence, I glance around in the morning light to make sure nothing decides to creep up on me but nothing moves or made a sound. The forrest seemed so dead and lifeless. I love being outt in the woods in the early mornings with no one else around except for the animals that lived out here but they rarely showed themselfs to me, which I dont mind to much.

Finally I get to my spot on top of the ridge that overs looks the longe valley and the frozen river that runs threw it. I have been coming up here ever sence i could read a map, my grandfather taught me how to when I was eight and he gave me a olden compass for my birthday. He was a solder in Wold War 2 and mom says he had a slight case of PTSD and he was paranoid that his only grandchild would get lost out in the woods because he couldnt read a map or fallow tracks and my mother refused his advise to move to a loction less wild so his solutionn was one summer take me deep into the wild where he rented a old creecky cabin and taught me how to read maps, track animals, trapping, and just how to live on my own and off of land. Ever sence that summer I spend ever waking moment i can out in these woods behind my house, it drove my parents nuts that some days I would be gone before the sun was up and hours after it had set, but they havn't ever done anything to stop me from going.

CAW! Boke the morning slince like shattering glass and made me nearly jump out of my skin, I turn as quickly as I can on my heels to see a vary large raven sitting on a low hanging tree branch. Its black beedy eyes intently gaze on me possibly looking at my soul and pecking at it a little to see how it tastes. After a long silence shared between the two us it cawed at me again then spread its wings and takes off with a great speed into the morning shadows of the trees as if it was never there. I slowly turn and start to wall away and down into the valley when I get tackled from behind knocking me face first into the snow and I get the pain of something biting into my neck
