It was a dining room, nothing special about it. Her mother looked at her and waited for her approval.
“Why couldn’t I see this before?” Her mother smiled at her.
“Because I thought you weren’t ready… There are bodies in here, Caroline. Dead bodies they range from old to young, black to white, male to female. There are no patterns, just death.”
“… Where are they?” Her mother picked up a rug to reveal a trap door. She entered a code on a lock then opened the trap door.
“Ready?”
“You don’t want to go in there. You want to continue to see us; you want to continue to see me.” The man stated somewhat nervously. She turned and looked at the man and the woman who had followed her in the room. Of course, the man was closer to her than the clueless woman. If the child went in there, did that mean she wouldn’t have to see them ever again?
“I’ll go.” The child said finally. Her mother rushed her down the stairs and just like that the man and the woman disappeared.
Perfectly preserved bodies were mounted on the walls. Some of them had broken limbs that were pointing in odd directions. They were all unclothed. The clothes of some of them were tied together to make the bodies stay in place but also hang off the wall. Some bodies had no skin and were just a pile of bones. Some bones had skulls on top of them, making them look like a bouquet of flowers. There were dozens of bodies and they were all condemned to this room. The question lurking in Caroline’s mind was: is she condemned here too?
