( aged casting )

age gaps are very important when writing any story, whether its fanfiction or not. although it's important to all genres, one of its main is fanfiction. preferably because of using real people to play the characters.

and its sickening seeing some of you people pair people in their mid/early/late 20s or 30s with child actors. even if they were over proper age, its not right to pair a 20 year old with someone like chris evans or RDJ, no matter who you are.

01. teen actors
STOP PAIRING PEOPLE 18+ WITH CHILD ACTORS! ITS DISGUSTING! the children are underage and trust me, some of you are guilty of it. its mostly fanfaction of it or stranger things, and ive seen people cast dove cameron with finn wolfhard. rowan blanchard with tom holland. tom holland is 22 years old! rowan is only 17! thats not right! you can easily find people their age to cast with them.

02. age gaps & aging them up
no matter what age you are, there is always still a wrong age gap. its wrong to be pairing two people with a 10 year age gap. thats not right, either. and dont say youre 'too lazy to find a better faceclaim' because thats bullshit. you can find a better, more age appropriate faceclaim in a matter of a minute. a tip? go on famous birthdays. all you need to do type the age in the search bar on the site and plenty of famous actors and models and so on that is that such age is right at your fingertips! the largest age gap allowed should be 3 years max. even 3 is pushing it. preferably 2 years. so a 2-3 year age gap is the most you should go. anything that is 4 years and over is just ridiculous and sometimes even sickening depending on how large it went.

for example, in my book 'treasure', my oc, sara gailey is played by nadia turner who is 14 years old. her love interest, sadie sink is 16 years old. a two year age gap. that's acceptable.

and also aging characters up counts with it. the age gap is important when aging up your character. if you're oc is 17 and love interest is 20, you shouldn't age them up. its still not right. but aging someone like nadia up to 15 or 16 is acceptable since her and sadie's age gap is so small. 2 years and 3 days apart to be exact. and if you're going to use a younger version of a older cast member to match your oc, please specify so. that way you wont be under attack by angry fangirls ( im helpin you out, man ).

03. aging them down
just because theyre aged down in movies doesnt mean you can do it in your books! because even thougj they are aged down in the shows and movies, so is their love interest. not only that but the actor/actress playing their partner is also the same age or near the same age as that other actor/actress. so dont use this as an excuse to try to age down someone to match your oc's age.

04. multiple faceclaims for your oc
if you're writing a series ( because i am and i thought this could help you also ) if your oc is under 18, but in the next book is 18 or over, you can always find a faceclaim that age that kinda looks like the faceclaim playing your underage one! it would work, and wont be weird. its like seeing an older version of themself.

and even though so many people are against doing these things, i see plently of fanfictions that do that and have thousands, sometimes even millions of reads and hundreds/thousands of votes on the books. just please prevent from casting wrong, it'll be worth it if you do it right.
