There's a certain sadness to a sunset.

There's just something about the way it casts a brand of fire to an autumn-licked sky, golden rays of light dancing across the horizon in warm hues of an artisan's design. Every time the sun dips low, marking the death of yet another day, the world seems to slip into silence for the wee hours of the night. Time seems to slow to a near halt as the moon takes its place in a heavenly arc across the tapestry of stars that hangs over the Earth, so far below.

She could never quite put her finger on why it was such a melancholy event for her. After all, it marked the end of something old and the beginning of something new. What was there to be sad about?

Amber let out a bothered sigh as she tossed a stick into her dying flame, sparks and embers flurrying up in a unique, solitary march to nowhere. She fixed her ashy gaze on the deep forest around her, humming a faintly familiar tune, the title of which she'd long forgotten in a fruitless attempt to distract herself from that pointless, nagging thought. She just couldn't shake it, no matter how hard she tried.

A question for another day, she decided, the bright light of her fire captivating her once more. It could surely wait till tomorrow. Or the next day. Or the next.

Just not today.
