The air around me is cool and sweet, unlike anything I've ever felt before. The sky, an awe-worthy shade of blue, the puffy clouds slithering across at a snail's pace. I breath deep, taking it all in. The beauty of the light grass as it brushes my bare legs. The sound of animals chattering. The smell of the sweet flowers. I want to be embraced by it all. Every. Single. Drop.
Then, the ground begins to crumple around me.
No.
No, please. Don't do this to me.
The ground falls away beneath my feet, and I'm falling. Before, I felt like I was flying when my feet never left the grass. Now, I feel miserable. I have nothing to do as I plummet into unknown darkness. The sweet flowers are gone. The feel of the grass is gone. The bright sun is gone.
I'm alone.
Then, just before I hit the ground, I jolt up. My blankets comfort my sweating body. I breath. Its the same dream I've been having for months, and I never know when its coming. I already miss the cool breeze and the amazing view. Its impossible to get it out of my mind.

I spy the breakfast beside my bed. The eggs are a bright, almost unnatural yellow. The meat next to it is thin and artificially perfect. But, its the best the world has to offer. We're lucky to have it. I grab the water next to the plate. Its clear and as beautiful as any crystal. I gulp it down, the cool liquid making me feel better immediately. Then, I spy the gray clock on the wall, and my heart skips a beat.
1:30 P.M?!
I'm late for class!!
I jump out of my bed hurriedly and throw my breakfast into the garbage bin. I don't have time. I slip out of my nightgown and pull on my uniform. The red pleated skirt is tight around my waist and the thin white shirt makes it hard to breath. I must have gained weight. I sigh, knowing the consequences of skipping out on my exercise time. I just feel like I have better things to do.
I glance in the mirror at my freckled face as I run out the door. My deep amber hair is a wild mess and my green eyes glow in the dim electronic light. I've heard I've inherited them from my father, but I wouldn't know.

Sprinting down the hallways, I head to History. Then, I stop in my tracks. Nobody knows I'm on my way to class, so I might as well take my time. Besides, History is my strong suit. I won't have to worry about getting a failing grade.
The halls are eerily empty as I wander. There's at least a thousand students enrolled here, so seeing no one in the halls is disturbing. I'm usually late to class each time I have that dream so I'm used to only a few people roaming the halls. But I've never been this late before... Im really going to get it now.
I try my best to stay calm and keep walking. As I wander lazily through the cold and barren hallways I look out through the windows. They're electronic so their picture can display something prettier than the actual world outside. I've heard students gossip about what's out there. Some think it's a barren wasteland of nothing but dirt. Others think it's infested with undead creatures. What do I think? Honestly, I don't know.

I sigh and continue on. The clop of my dress shoes on the hard floor is like music to me. Not soon after there will be a wild symphony of shoes on the floor, drowning mine out.
My stomach growls angrily at me. It's mad for skimping out on breakfast. I decide to head to the cafeteria, there maybe food left from breakfast.
I step inside, the long and narrow tables spotless and clean. The food dispensers at the end of the room are nearly empty. One displays a yellow light at the top, showing it's low on supply. The other two are red, empty.

I go up to the yellow dispenser and turn it on. An array of breakfast related foods show up before me. The most popular choices are marked out and gray in color, showing that the dispenser is all out. I decide to just get an apple. I press the picture and hear the fruit rolling down. It appears below, a bright striking red. I grab it and roll it around in my hand. Its spotless and beautiful. I take a bite and the sweetness overwhelms me.

Just as I throw the now bare apple core into the disposal, a loud beeping sounds over the speakers. Students begin rushing through the halls like a rapid river. I make my way through the crowds, shoving my way against the current. My History class is over. Now I head to Construction.

I reach the room and push myself in past the students and take a deep breath. I hate tight spaces. I look around and spy the building figure on our desk. Its a special building called a skyscraper. They apparently used to be all around the world in huge city's and such. I guess thats what we're constructing today.

I look around at the desks. A lot of the students are already seated, two people to a table. I head to my desk in the back by myself. I don't have a seat partner, but I honestly don't mind. I kind of like sitting by myself. Its peaceful and I just work better that way.
Sighing, I put down my things next to my seat and sit down. Waiting for class to start, I reach into my pack and pull out my sketchbook. Stumbling through the papers, I reach a blank one. I take a pencil and begin to draw. I get lost in my thoughts and lose track of time when I draw. So much so that when the sound goes off to indicate the beginning of class, I nearly jump out of my seat. I quickly push my book into my pack and sit up straight.

The teacher steps in, his face unreadable. Then, I nearly gasp out loud at what happens next. A girl steps in unlike anyone has ever seen.
"Attention students!" The teacher shouts.
"I would like to introduce you all to Samantha Nicole. She is from the outside. Life hasn't been easy for her, and she is very new here. I would like you all to do your best to make her feel welcome."
Then, I really do gasp. She's from the outside?! I have so many questions I want to ask. And her name... Samantha... Its very old fashion.

We all stare at her like a rat in a cage. Her hair is long, black, and curly. The eye color is a light piercing grey unlike I've ever seen. Her skin is tan yet light. Its undeniably breathtaking.

The teacher shakes her hand and whispers something to her. Her eyes are wide, like a cornered animal. How did she get here? Then, the teacher points to the seat next to me. She nods and gulps. Slowly, she clutches her arm bag and walks to me, eyes on the floor. Other students are chattering to one another quietly, and I know they're just as curious as I am.

The girl sits down slowly, everything foreign to her. She scratches at her shirt and fidgets with the cuffs, probably unused to such clothing. As class begins, I can hardly pay attention. I can't stop staring at her.

I try to do what the teacher says, but then I see something out of the corner of my eye. I look over at the girl and notice something... Peculiar. Her eyes. They're turning color.
"Sa-Samantha?" I stutter.
She looks up at me, her now deep purple eyes staring into my soul.
"Yes?" Her voice is light and stiff.
"Your eyes.... They..."
She gapes, mouth wide.
"No..." She whispers "No, its too soon..."
Then, everything is a blur. It all happens so quickly. Her eyes flash neon and bright as she stretches out her hand and touches mine. Suddenly, time pauses. Everything around me turns grey. Then, Samantha pulls a sryinge out of her pocket. Before I can do anything, she jumps on top of me and pushes it deep into my neck.
"I'm sorry... But we need you." She whispers and looks down at me as I struggle to stay awake, blood trickling down my neck. I have no choice but to give in as darkness consumes me.
