Elliott woke up with a fright, it took him a few moments to realise what was going on.

RING! RING!

He blindly reached out for his phone and looked at the screen, 4:43am. Who the hell is calling at this time? Something must be wrong, something better be wrong or someone is going to get an earful!

"Hello?"

"I can't do it anymore."

"Logan? What do you mean? What's going on? Where are you?" Elliott asked worryingly.

"Do you still live in the same block?"

"Yeah, Mill Lane."

"I'm outside."

"1 minute"

Elliott quickly hung up the phone, pulled some trousers on and went downstairs.

Why is Logan here? He hasn't seen him in months.
They used to be best friends, they met at Uni and just clicked straight away. Towards the end of their second year, Logan met Amelie. All was great at first, they'd go to festivals together and have great fun but after about 8-9 months, Amelie got very controlling and wouldn't allow Logan to go out alone and eventually he wasn't even allowed to talk to anyone without her permission.
Elliott tried to reach out a few times but always got blown off by Logan or Amelie so he eventually gave up.

Elliott paused at the door for a second and took a deep breath. He opened the door to find Logan standing there, his eyes red and his hair all disheveled.

"Logan, what happened?! Come in, it's freezing out here..I'll put the kettle on and we'll talk"

They turned and walked up the stairs quietly to flat number 3. Elliott opened the door and gestured to Logan for him to walk in first and then softly closed the door behind them both. Once inside, Elliott made himself and Logan tea and sat at the kitchen table. Logan sat opposite and sipped his milky tea.

"What's going on, mate?" Elliott broke the silence.

Logan looked down at his hands and started to pick at his fingers.

"I went home after work and Amelie was there with another bloke...in our bed. I asked them what the hell was going on and she went crazy at me. I can't even remember most of what was said but the bloke left, he said he didn't know about me. Amelie then blamed me for ruining her 'chances' with him and said I always ruin everything. She hit me and told me to get out and now, here I am."

Logan kept his eyes looking down at his hands the whole time he spoke. Finally, he looked up at Elliott and notices he had tears in his eyes.

Elliott pulled him in for a hug.
He didn't care that Logan hadn't called him for nearly 2 years. He didn't care that all the times he needed his best friend over those 2 years, Logan wasn't there. He didn't care that he had constantly wondered what he had done wrong to make Logan leave him like he did. Elliott could see the emptiness in Logan's eyes and the last couple of years are starting to make sense to him now.

"I'm sorry." Logan sobbed into Elliott's shoulder.

"Don't be stupid. You've got nothing to be sorry about."
