Dizzy asks the question as she touches a glob of hot glue another piece to the crown she's making.
"How do you know you're in love?"
Evie pauses for a minute, trying to decide her best plan of action. She folds the fabric from her latest project, puts it back into a nearby drawer, and shuts it with one hand and the other passes over the hanging fabrics in front of her, trying to find another color to add to the dress as an accent.
"What do you mean?" she decides on asking as she allows her hand to fall off the last piece of hanging fabric and grab the back of Dizzy's black chair. The area that she had deemed simply as "Dizzy's worktable sat farthest away from the door and was a mess of loose wire, pieces of fabric, and tiny jewels she's found hanging about Auradon.
Auradon's princesses had a habit of throwing away of throwing away priceless things, children being one of those things in Evie's opinion.
The piece that Dizzy is currently making is a silver crown, she had told her earlier as she wrapped some cord around a discarded piece of red ruby. Her fingers were wrapped with bandages, mostly to stop herself from getting cut by the wire as she turns it around a stick wire in her hands. Evie is a big believer in mastering your own craft without criticism, so she watches her for a moment before moving to right of the chair and sitting down on her knees to plug in the hot glue gun hovering by the right end of the desk in case she intends to use it. Glue drips onto the blue napkin underneath as Dizzy nods her assent.
"Well, you don't get the butterflies when you see someone you like," Dizzy explains, fluttering her hands about her before using the hot glue to stabilize another piece of the crown, "So how do you know you're in love?"
Evie pauses to mind her words before gently prying the glue gun out out her hands and placing it back in original spot and turning Dizzy's seat to face her. Dizzy's face seemed to be a mix of sad and worried, her mouth fixed in a tight frown and her gaze fixed on the crown she had been making which now took its place in her lap.
It obvious that she had been mulling over this topic over the past couple of weeks, which was understandable since she had only just started learning about the fluidity of gender and sexuality. Before she had simply took her sexuality in stride, not really caring about what it meant as long as Evie was happy, but her brain had only begun trying to understand the complexity of Evie's relationships with other people. Evie chastises herself under her breath and for not seeming like a person in Dizzy's mind that she could come to with her questions.
"As you know, there are many kinds of attraction in this world," Evie starts, carefully taking the crown with both hands and setting it in the center of the dark wood of the desk, " Romantic attraction is where you have an emotional connection with someone who you want to be in a relationship with. Platonic attraction is when you crave a friendship with a specific person. Aesthetic attraction is when you like someone solely due to their looks. Sensual attraction is when you crave a physical connection to someone. Sexual attraction is when you want to have sex with a particular person or persons."
Dizzy nodded, seemingly confused by Evie presenting her with information that she already knew that didn't answer the question. Evie grabbed a hold of her hands and squeezed between her own, silently asking her for patience as she continued to talk.
"A lot of people feel many of these things at once. However, by saying I am asexual, it means I don't feel any sexual attraction towards people. But that doesn't mean I ever stopped feeling those butterflies, Dizzy. I doubt I ever will," she finishes, smiling up at Dizzy.
" It doesn't affect your relationship with Doug at all," she questions, eyebrows furrowing as she remembers what her grandmother told her about relationships. The older girl pushes lets go of on of Dizzy's hands in favor of pushing her hair out of her eyes before grabbing a hold of them once more.
"No," Evie responds wistfully, imprinting the outline of a heart on Dizzy's left hand with the tip of her middle finger before moving to stand, "though it makes me sad sometimes to think I won't be able to give him everything he wants."
Dizzy looks up at her for a moment, trying to internally decide the best course of action, before pulling her into a one-armed hug. They stay like that for a couple of moments, rocking slightly back and forth, before Dizzy pulls away and continues to work, leaving Evie with a wistful smile on her face as she returns to the dress she had been working on originally.
She know what color to make the accent of her dress, she thinks to herself as she picks up the silver thread on her desk and threads it through the needle.
