Chapter 2. Gand Corp Explosion

"Hmm yes" Kara answered.

"Hey! It's Mike Matthews" The man said. "You good?"

"Yeah, sure, it's been a day and I suppose nothing has changed" Kara said.

"Well, you're the only person I got used to know here and... what I wanted to say is that... I'm moving to National City and I assumed you could help me somehow" Mike said. He sounded a bit nervous. "Am I interrupting you? Just asking."

"No, no, of course not" Kara laughed nervously. "Yes, I can help you. At least I'll try. So when are you moving?"

"I've already moved my part of company to National City so I think quite soon" Mike answered. "I think in about a week or something like that."

"Thanks, I'll take that" Kara said opening her closet. "Sorry about that but I gotta get ready for work."

"Goodbye then" Mike said. "Have a nice day, Kara."

"Thanks, you too" Kara answered and turned off her phone.

She had breakfast and got dressed. In half hour she grabbed her bag and walked out of  her apartment.

"Well, I've got some exclusive this morning" Cat began as the meeting started. "Today's heading is 'Explosion in Gand Corporation'. One of their labs exploded last night. I don't know the number of victims yet bur I'm pretty sure there's not less than a dozen. The CEO pf Gand Corporation – Liam Gand has been arrested this morning. We don't know if his wife Rebecca is involves in all this yet so go try to find more information. NOW."

Kara walked out of Cat's office and got back to her table. She could hear Cat talking on her phone.

"Yes. I can't believe..."

"...The most confusing thing is that I signed a contract with Gand Corporation yesterday..."

"...No, their son came here. I doubt if he knew all about this. He didn't look suspicious..."

"...Exactly. Could you get some more info ASAP please. I don't want Daily Planet to get all the exclusive..."

Kara tried to remember yesterday's guests and realised that the only guest was Mike Matthews.

She pulled her phone out and started searching for his phone number frantically.

"Mike Matthews. Can I help you?" Mike said.

"Hello Mike, it's Kara, Kara Danvers" Kara said nervously. "I've just heard of the explosion. Look, I'm not going to blame you, just wanna know if you're involved or if I can help somehow."

"Oh hello, Kara" Mike said. His voice turned broken. "Yes, I own a part of my dad's company. And I'm not involved because I moved my part to National City not a long time ago. I really hope my dad won't defend himself the way I wouldn't like him to."

"Which way?" Kara asked.

"Well, for example that I started all this or that my Mom did that or both of us participated in this..." Mike started.

"Stop, I got it" Kara said quickly. "Got it. So your dad is the CEO of Gand Corporation?"

"He is." Mike replied, "And he's an asshole too. Tell Cat to be careful. I didn't have any idea what he was doing by the way. Apparently the lab is located in the part of the company I don't have any access to."

"Yeah, thanks, I will, " Kara said.

"You don't believe me," Mike determined.

"I do," Kara objected, "You can trust me"

"As far as I know he tried to invent some brand new chemical weapons. Of course I figured this out just a couple hours ago but I already have a picture of all he was doing. Years ago when I was at college he mentioned chemicals and something else I don't remember," Mike said.

"So what?" Kara asked.

"He almost succeeded I have to admit,"Mike said, "The only thing I know for sure is that my life has changed completely. Seems like now I have a really bad reputation for an accident I had no idea about. The worst thing is that more than twenty people were injured and about four are dead."

"That's awful," Kara said shocked.

"Yeah, I know. And I also know that together we can convince Cat Grant – the queen of social media – that I am innocent," Mike said.

"So are you moving to National City after all?" Kara asked.

"I do want to move here. Even more than I did before that happened. I want to get as far as possible from my parents, " Mike replied, "You're still going to help me, right?"

"Sure," Kara answered.
