"Umber, the boss would like to see you at this time," A feminine voice called out from the intercom. Just another grunt, or receptionist? Whatever, that doesn't matter. I pressed the button that would allow me to respond.
"Tell him I'm on my way," I said. Quickly looking in the mirror, I made sure I was presentable. My black rocket uniform was clean, and free of any careless wrinkles. I ran my fingers through my long, magenta hair, making sure to get all the knots out. My brown eyes did one more check, to make sure there wasn't a somehow visible stain on my shirt, and once I decided I was in good shape, I made my way to my boss's office.
I guess I should introduce myself? Well, as you heard (read?) earlier, my name is Umber. I'm a member of Team Rocket, brought in by the boss himself. He was sort of a father figure to me, since he offered me a place when I lost my home and family. However, because of our sort of family relationship, he doesn't feel all that comfortable with letting me do too much field work, in case if I get hurt or kidnapped or something. But I'm 16 years old; I can take care of myself! You know...once I get a Pokemon of my own, that is. I guess I understand his worry though, since he told me that his son was kidnapped years ago.
That's enough of that for now though. I knocked on his office door before letting myself in. His Persian was curled up on a small bed in the corner of the room, one eye opening to see who had entered. After seeing it was only me, the large cat closed his eyes and readjusted himself to go back to sleep.
"You wished to see me?" I said, stopping a few feet from his desk.
Giovanni, the boss, looked up from the papers he was inspecting on his desk. "Yes, I have an important mission for you," He started. I blinked in surprise. A mission? Even with his concern? "You know my son, right?"
"Of course, that's why I'm kind of surprised you'd allow me on a mission..."
"There have been reports of him in the region, supposedly. At least, reports of a red haired kid around your age. I would like you to find him, keep him safe, and bring him home. He's apparently going around stealing gym badges, and has already stolen a Pokemon from the lab in New Bark Town."
"I'd be happy to bring him home, leave it to me!" I smiled. I knew just how important it would be to Giovanni for him to finally see his son after so many years. I wouldn't let him down. I turned to leave his office to go prepare for my journey.
"Oh, and one more thing," The older man said, stopping me in my tracks, keeping my back to him. "Don't let him know who you really are, or what you're doing. He should be around Goldenrod, according to my sources."
"Alright, don't worry; he'll be home soon." I assured him. I quickly exited, and made my way to my room to pack for my mission.
Adjusting the backpack on my shoulder, I walked out of the little game corner in Celadon City, and looked around. I didn't have any Pokemon, so I couldn't battle any wild ones, unless if I really wanted to waste what little money I had on Pokeballs that would constantly break. I don't want to disrespect Giovanni but...couldn't someone at least give me something to start with? I'd even take a Zubat, it's better than nothing.
My eyes landed on the prize corner just across the street, and then I got my brilliant idea. Gripping onto my black backpack, I jogged over. The glass automatic doors slid open, and I walked in like any other customer. The ladies working behind the desk smiled as I approached.
"Hello, welcome to the prize corner! Would you like to exchange your coins for prizes?" One of them asked. Shit, of course they use coins, not money. And buying coins from the game corner would be too expensive.
