They had almost searched all corners of the room when Dr Mercado looked under the desk. Scrunched as far back as she could be, knees to her chest in a ball, was a girl in a company jacket. She looked too young to work at the laboratory, though. Maybe only 18 or 19.
When her eyes registered the light, the girl jumped and hit her head on the bottom side of the desk, a yelp escaping her lips. She slowly looked up at Dr Mercado.
