Rachel's POV
My mom smiled at me, as if nothing was wrong. I stood there glaring at her. Did she really believe that what she did didn't affect me either?
"Rachel, honey, I missed you," she gets off of the bed and starts to walk towards me, hands outstretched. I backed away from my mother. She put her hands down, a frown replacing the smile on her face.
"Ray, be polite," my dad cut into the conversation. I tore my gaze away from my mother, Kayla, and to my dad. He had a stern look in his face and so did I.
"How can I be polite to this bitch." I gestured towards Kayla. Kayla had a look of hurt on her face after hearing my comment but I really could care less.
"Rachel, do not talk to your mother that way, apologize now!" my dad was now off the bed, shouting at me. I looked back at my dad and started to speak again.
"I'm not going to apologize for saying something that is true. Did she apologize for cheating on you? No she didn't," I spit back at my dad. I can feel tears welling up at the mention of Kayla cheating on my dad.
*flashback*
I lay the bags down onto the kitchen counter and run up the stairs. I hear my dad set the rest of the bags down onto the counter.
I wanted go surprise my mom with the roses my dad got her for their anniversary, which was today. Right now, my dad and I were supposedly at the ice cream parlor, but my dad wanted to give my mom her roses first.
As I approached the room, I started to hear weird noises. All of a sudden, I hear a scream and run to the room, thinking my mom was getting hurt.
I swing the door open and see my mom in her bed with another guy on top of her. I scream for my dad and they both turn to look at me. My mom looks mortified, and the guy looks surprised.
"Ray, please don-" I didn't let her finish.
"Don't call me that!" I screech "it's your anniversary for goodness sakes and you're here with another guy?! Do you not realize that today marks the 12 years you and dad have been together? And you just have the decency to go around with other guys!"
She looks at me with sad eyes, the guy still on top of her. My dad was standing next to me now, tears streaming down his face. My mom notices him, pushes the guy off of her, wraps a blanket around herself, and starts towards my dad and I.
"Derek, Ray, I'm so sorry I did this to you guys," her words were sorry, but her eyes were not. She looked at me and tried to comes towards me.
"Get away from me! You're such a slut, and you cheat on my dad on your anniversary! I hate you so much!" I scream in her face. This time, her cheeks were wet with fresh tears, her eyes holding real emotions.
"Rachel, don't say that, I'm your mother, you could never hate me," she tried coming towards me again, but I backed up.
"I thought that too, but I guess that was a lie because I do hate you," I run from the room and run to my room, crying into my pillow.
*flashback over*
"Ray, I'm so sorry for doing this to you guys. I just came to discuss custody with your father. We agreed that you can stay here for the school year and come stay with me for the summer," Kayla explained.
"I don't want to go with you for 2 whole months! I hate you, I can't be in the same building with people I hate." Did my dad really want to send me off back to New York with my mom for two months?
