The Winter Night

"Where to, Malfoy?"

I jumped in my place as I heard Harry's voice coming from behind. I turned to face him, but he was nowhere to be seen.

"Potter?"

He appeared suddenly before my eyes, a silky silver cloak was hanging from his right hand. He had been hiding under something that looked like an Invisibility Cloak. He was not wearing his night robes, so I could tell he was out for some mischief, as usual.

"I knew you had some trick. Nobody could have wandered around the school all these years without being caught just by sheer luck."

Harry smiled.

"Were you... following me?," for sure it wasn't the first time he did it. I was sure that in past times, when I used to get into trouble, he had probably already followed me under his magic cloak. But for some reason, the fact that he was following me at the precise moment made me feel rather nervous. Did he want to know where I was and what I did? Could he... care?

"Not really. It just looks like we both need some fresh air," he pointed to the main door, which led to the school grounds.

I nodded, slightly disappointed.

"I like to be out at night. I like the view."

"And burn your hands with the snow?"

I blushed as I realized he remembered the detail, but he didn't seem to care. He walked ahead and stepped into the school grounds and I followed him. It felt like some kind of gravitational attraction. Every time he was around, I just followed, and I smiled inside at the thought that I could follow him without having to hide beneath any Invisibility Cloak and he didn't mind.

The school grounds were silent and peaceful. The dark sky drew a perfect line against the white snow, like darkness and light meeting secretly at night. The night sky was freckled with small white crystals and the moon was pouring a gentle light over the trees, over the castle, over Harry. He too was mesmerized by the beauty of the night.

"I really like to come here at winter nights. It just feels as if it everything embraced you. It's not lonely or gloomy, as many people think. I think it's rather-"

"Comforting," Harry finished and I just nodded silently.

If anything could make the winter landscape more beautiful, it was Harry standing up there with his messy black hair dancing with the cold wind. My face was almost frozen by the cold, but my heart was warm and happy, because he was right there.

"It's actually really cold here," he said, his nose and cheeks slightly red.

Once again, denying my head any time to think, I approached Harry.

"Let me handle that," I said as I held his body close to mine.

He seemed to be in shock, for he did nothing to push me away nor did he hold me back. I could feel, however, his body was tense and uncomfortable, so I broke the silence:

"You're small."

His face was hiding somewhere between his hair and my chest. He looked up to meet my face and said:

"No, you grew you up too much."

We stared at each other and I realized I was sweating and that my heart was beating so crazily against my chest it almost hurt. The thought that he could probably be able to feel that made me even more sweaty, but he didn't say anything. He just kept staring deeply at me, as if he hadn't looked at me at all in his entire life.

"You have grey eyes," he said silently, "I always thought they were green..."

"It's the Slytherin robe, I guess."

"It's getting really warm in here. What spell did you use?"

"There's no spell..."

"Oh...," Harry blushed. He blushed.

At that moment I didn't know what to do, we didn't say anything for what seemed forever.

Harry finally pushed me away a little and moved away. And the moment was gone.

"I better go back to the Gryffindor Common Room. I need to sleep. You should, too. Good night," and he walked back to the castle without looking back at me.
