The rain was pouring down as I drove to work. I knew this meant my hair would be a little out of control, but I tried to stay positive because the rain was really needed. I turned my music up a little to hear it better over the sound of the rain while thinking of my day ahead of me. I was glad I didn't have any houses to show today because I didn't want to be out in the rain much more. I had just closed on a house the day before and was okay with doing paperwork today. I pulled into my usual parking spot in the parking garage and had a mental pep talk with myself. I always try to stay positive but sometimes the mundane everyday tasks had a way of getting to me. Growing up I had always expected my life to be a little more exciting than what it had turned out to be.

I stepped out of my car and grabbed my lunch and water bottle ready to start the day ahead of me. Walking through the parking garage always made me a little nervous so I walked with one hand in my purse on my pepper spray. Growing up in a small town and moving to a large city was amazing but some things I never seemed to get comfortable with. I rushed across the tunnel connecting the parking garage to the building, hoping the air-conditioning would help control my hair some. A small sigh escaped my lips when I crossed the threshold of the building and I felt the cool air brush against my cheeks and lips.

I gave a quick wave to the buildings secretary as I walked to the elevators and slipped in. I pushed the correct button I needed and took a step back. Just as the doors were about to close a hand shot through the gap in the door. I took another step back slightly startled. As the doors started opening I looked up the hand to see a charcoal gray suit jacket. My eyes moved up the arm to a white dress shirt and a burgundy tie. As my eyes traveled to his face I could feel a slight blush creep up my face. He was rather handsome. He had a clean-shaven face, defined jaw line, lips drawn up into a slight smirk, a cute nose that seemed to fit his face perfectly, his hazel eyes matched his tan skin tone, and his dark brown hair was styled perfectly. I recognized him as a coworker. He used to a realtor with me however, he had moved to a different department a couple months ago. I wasn't sure where he went but I hadn't seen him much lately. "Sorry, is it Evangeline? I'm running a little late for a meeting." He said as he stepped into the elevator with me.

I'm sure he could see the shock in my face. I had no idea he knew what my name was. We had never worked on a project together or even close together on the floor. I couldn't remember his name and my blush intensified even more. I was already bad with names it was rather embarrassing especially when they remember mine. "It's okay, were going to the same floor anyways." I stammer out. He pulled out his phone and started scrolling through something. While he was looking down I glanced at his hair. It looked like he had just got out of the shower or got rained on. It was no fair that his hair could look so good either way. When I wash my hair, it takes it hours to look good and if it gets rained on it will look horrible all day. I jumped when I heard a deep chuckle come from him. At first, I thought he saw something funny on his phone then I realized he had caught me staring. I didn't think it was possible but apparently it was because my blushed deepened even more. At this point I probably looked like a tomato. Just as I was about to come up with some excuse the elevators dinged, and the doors started opening. I walked towards them and as soon as there was a space big enough for my body to fit through I pushed myself out.

As I approached my desk I saw a blueberry bagel and a small tub of cream cheese sitting next to it. A small smile came to my lips as I thought of my best friend and how thoughtful she can be. She always seemed to know how to make my day better. I spread some cream cheese onto the bagel while I power up my MacBook to start my day. Just as I am taking a bite of the bagel I see red curly hair bobbing its way over to my cubicle.
