(Leslie's PoV)
I woke up to the blaring noise of my alarm clock. I swear that thing could wake the dead. I groaned, not wanting to get out of bed, because I knew today was going to be hell.
It was the first day of my senior year of high school. I know what you're thinking, most people are excited about their senior year, and can't wait to rule the high school. Not me. The only part of senior year I was excited for was graduation. I was ready to be done with my hellish high school experience.
I was probably one of the biggest nerds in school. My social status was lower than the most annoying freshman. Every day in that miserable school is worse than the last, and summer vacation was the only escape from that hellhole, and now summer is over and I have nine months of endless hell ahead of me.
I reluctantly got out of bed and turned off my alarm. I got dressed in a pair of jeans and a blue t-shirt. I never wear shorts or tight shirts to school. Girls who do that have to be really self confident, and I'm not. I have a decent body, I'm not fat or anything, I just am way to self conscious to every dress cute at school anymore.
In middle school whenever I wore shorts or cute shirts, I got made fun of by the popular girls, so I decided to dress not to be noticed.
I put on my black converse, grabbed my backpack, and walked out to my kitchen. My parents had left for work, and my older brother, Kyle, was sitting on the couch watching reruns of Breaking Bad.
"Aww look at my dorky little sister of to her first day of senior year. How cute." Kyle said sarcastically.
"Aww look at my deadbeat older brother wasting away watching a show that got cancelled a a year ago. How sad." I replied.
"They made a huge mistake canceling this show. It was amazing."
"I'm sure you and all the little fangirls of breaking bad will get over it after a little therapy. " I joked, turning around to grab a pop tart out of the cabinet.
Through the shared wall of our apartment, we heard muffled shouting. "I have no way to get to school... miss the first day of senior year... How am I ever supposed to salvage my reputation if you keep trying to crush my social life!?"
Of course that snobby girl was only worried about her good reputation. You see, I lived right next to Kate Kalls, the most popular girl in school. Everyone knew her, and everyone loved her. But I heard that over the summer something happened on a party boat and a whole bunch of people hate her now.
I didn't really feel like hearing Kate argue with her dad anymore, so I walked outside and up the steps to stand on the curb and wait for my ride. I didn't even have a minute of peace before I heard the sound of high heels clicking up the concrete steps from the bottom floor condos.
"Hi Leslie." Kate greeted as she came to stand next to me.
"Hi Kate." I responded.
"How was your summer?" She asked.
"My summer was pretty boring. I heard you sunk a boat." I said.
"Oh my gosh... Even you heard about that!?"
"Yeah. Even I heard about that. I assume it's a pretty big deal."
"Well I lost all my friends and we're about to lose a 6 million dollar lawsuit because of it." she said.
"You sunk a 6 million dollar boat!?"
"Well technically the boat was only 3 million dollars. But there are apparently some other expenses." I could hear the guilt in her voice. Just about every morning for the past six years, the two of us have stood on the curb making small talk waiting for our separate rides. But then she asked something that not only surprised me, but may have even surprised her.
"Do you think I could uh... maybe have a ride to school today?"
Wow. Whatever happened with that boat must have been really serious enough to make her ask the biggest losers in school for a ride.
"Um I guess so. We'll have to check with Jace, but he'll probably be fine with it."
"Thank you." She replied.
Right then, jace pulled up in his car. I walked up to the door and poked my head in the window...
"Is there room for one more today?"
