(Joey's PoV)

Jace dropped me off at my house, but I didn't want to go inside. I decided to make the ten minute walk up and down a few hills to the Steak n' Shake across the cove. As soon as I walked in, I regretted it.

I was alone and the biggest table in the place was filled with a group of my popular former friends who have wanted nothing to do with me since Kate made up some crazy lies about me in sophomore year. I sat at a table by myself, ordered a chocolate shake, and waited for a group of cool kids to come over and start picking on me.

Nobody did.

I though it was weird, but then I noticed a few of them crying. I was curious, so I started listening in on their conversation.

"I can't believe she died," one of the crying girls whimpered, "She was like my best friend."

"It's okay Monica, you know that Maria was in a lot of pain this past month. She hadn't been able to leave the hospital. Even the day after the accident, the doctors said there was a very high chance of death, or deadly complications."

Maria? Maria Yeshi died? I heard she was in the hospital because of the boat crash, but she died? I guess now it makes more sense why the popular kids hate Kate so much now. I don't bought it was stupid that they got so pissed about her sinking Brad's boat, but I had forgotten it was a 4th of July party, and their were a bunch of people on the boat when she crashed it.

"Did you guys say Maria Yeshi died?" I blurted out.

'Yeah, we did. Why would it matter to you?'' One of the popular kids snickered.

"She was the only one of you who was even remotely nice to me." I said, emphasizing the word you. "Assholes." I mumbled.

"One of our best friends just died, and you're worried about us being mean to you!!??!?" Angela Stark snapped.

"Do you even know what I did to make you hate me so much?" I asked. I wanted an answer, if they could even give me one...

"Kate Kalls told us that we...." Angela trailed. "Oh."

"Oh. It looks like you still subconsciously follow her, even though you supposedly hate her now," I sneered.

"Hey we do hate her!" Monica Albina snapped.

"Why, because she sank your previous boat?" I asked, turning my attention to Brad Freil.

"It may have pissed me off that she sunk my boat, but that's not the real reason we are mad at her." Brad said.

"Well what's the real reason?"

"We were all on that boat the night she sank it. We were all drunk, and partying, but she was too drunk. She took the wheel of the boat and drove it directly into the dam. The boat was already overloaded, and it was too damaged to hold above water anymore. There are only 7 life-jackets on the boat, so as the boat was sinking in the middle of the night, in the deepest part of the lake, there were at least 60 other people who couldn't use a life jacket. " Brad explained, "When we realized that the boat was sinking, it got chaotic. What can you expect with 70 drunk teenagers. She didn't just sink my boat, she terrified us. Some of us are still in therapy, some of us still can't bring ourselves to get on a boat, or go in the lake. Monica gets sick of she even looks at the water. And she killed Maria."

"How did she kill Maria?" How is it Kate's fault that Maria is dead. It's been like 6 weeks since the accident.

"When the boat was sinking, Maria fell, and accidentally cut herself, badly. It was a huge, deep cut in her side. Well, about two weeks after the accident, she noticed that the cut was infected so she went to the hospital. The infection came from the lake water, and it has progressed too far for the doctors to be able to fix it. She had been in the hospital, barely alive for almost a month, and it's Kate's fault. And now, it's Kate's fault that she's dead."

Wow, I never realized that there were more than a couple of people on the boat when Kate sank it. I had no idea that Maria Yeshi was in the hospital with anything deadly. I heard she was having a hard time handling things and may have had some mental trouble. But she was actually dying?

"All right guys, I'm back." Adam Pickering burst through the Steak N' Shake doors.

"Do you have the eggs?" Brad asked him.

"Backseat of my car." Adam smirked.

"Alright everyone. Let's go." Brad announced, and the entire table of popular kids left the building. I noticed that Brad had stepped back inside. "Hey Joe, why don't you come with us." he said.

"Where? To do what?" I asked, suspicious. The last time a group of popular kids asked me to go anywhere with them was at the end of my sophomore year. They said they wanted me to go to Silver Dollar City in Branson with them. And they did. We went, I had fun, all up until they left me there. I was scared and alone and I had to call Jace to come and pick me up. He showed up, but brought Leslie and Stella with him. The whole ride home I had to listen to all of them tell me "I told you so". I promised myself I wouldn't agree to hang out with the cool kids anymore. They got their laughs be making other people hate their lives.

"You'll find out when we get there." Brad replied.

"I dunno man," I started

"You'll really enjoy this. I promise we won't do anything mean like when we left you at that amusement park a couple years ago."

"Okay I'll come with you." I reluctantly agreed.

"Sweet man, hop in Adam's car."

"He man, hold onto those eggs in the backseat" Adam told me before he got into the drivers seat.

I got into Adams car, and held on to what had to be 50 cartons of eggs. We drove down the road, followed by two other cars filled with cool kids. I couldn't help but wonder why they wanted me to come with them. What were we doing that I was going to enjoy so much?

What are all these eggs for?
