Dream Mode (Until Said Otherwise)
I'm standing in the middle of a train track.
I look down and see that my feet were superglued to the tracks. I look at my surroundings. Train tracks below me and trees surround me. That's all that I can see. I look for a stick near the tracks. Luckily a sturdy stick was within my reach. I lean over and try to grab it. This is the most stretching I will have to do in my entire life. I thought.
I slide the stick under my shoe, moving the stick in a saw like action. After a very hurried two minutes my shoe got loose. I was about to do my second shoe when I could hear the train coming.
Oh shoot.
I look up and see the light from the train. I can also smell the smoke as it exits from the little pipe thingy at the top. Okay I don't know what it's called. I start to panic and hurridly saw at the super glue. The train is now really close. I close my eyes, giving up.
(Boy's POV)
I turn my head towards the train tracks as the blaring sound of the horn fills my ears. What I see fills my face with horror. There was a girl standing in the middle of the traintrack sawing at her feet.
I did the first thing that came to mind. Try and help her. I start closing the large gap between us as the train speeds towards her. I see her stand up, looking as if she has given up. I sprint a lot faster and lunge toward her bringing her down. I cover her face with my arms, and manage to cover my head. I curl my legs closer to my body to be as far from the train tracks as possible. I hear the train rumble by. I breathe a sigh of relief. We were safe.
As the train moves out of sight, I get off of the girl. I can see she has a look of pure horror on her face, and I couldn't realy blame her.
I stand up and hold my hand up to help her up. I then notice it's the girl I've been seeing a lot in the past few days. She takes my hand and I help her up.
I look at the tracks and see her shoes lying in the tracks.
"Are you okay?" I ask still eyeing her shoes.
"I-I'm fine," She responds through clenched teeth while glancing over at the tracks, "Just a little scared. Also shocked at my stupidity."
"Your stupidity?" I question.
"Yah like why I didn't take my shoes off in the first place." She chuckles.
"I'm Oliver, by the way." I hold out my hand for her to shake.
She takes my hand and shakes it violently.
"Autumn." She replies shyly, brushing her hair behind her ears.
She looks me in the eyes. "Thanks for saving my life back there."
"No problem. I felt like I needed to help you. I just can't- nevermind. I don't know what I'm talking about." I blush.
"No. I get it. You just saw a damsel in distress and being the prince charming you are, you had to save me." Autumn says rolling her eyes.
Then a shocked expression shows up on her face. "Did I say that out loud? About you being prince charming and all?"
I just let out a laugh.
"I didn't think I was prince material." I smirk.
"Oh shut up!" She says playfully pushing me. "At least I wasn't all like stuttering."
"Hey!! I was nervous. I didn't know what to say." I say in my defense.
"Why were you nervous?" Autumn questions with a hand on her hip.
I look at the floor. How can I say I find her attractive? I mean we only just met a few times before. Would she think I was wierd if I immediately said I found her attractive?
"I'm waiting." Autumn's voice brings me out of my thoughts.
"I uh just you know, because I never really talked to a pretty girl before." I stare at the floor fiddling with my fingers.
"Wow..um" Autumn starts.
"I know that was wierd of me to say, I'm-"
"That was the nicest thing any boy has ever said to me!" She hugs me. For a second I didn't know what to do, but then I just wrap my arms around her. We stay like that for a few minute and then Autumn breaks the hug. I can see her face is red like she was blushing.
"Sorry." She mumbles.
"Don't be. It's just what I needed. I haven't been hugged in a long time."
"What about your parents?"
I let out a sigh, preparing to tell Autumn something I've never told anyone before. Mostly because I don''t have any friends. "My mom died last year. And my dad is the only person to take care of me. The thing is he's out all the time. Drinking. You see he has a drinking problem and he can't seem to stop. I'm basically living by myself. I don't even go to school."
There's a long silence before Autumn says, "That's terrible! How can you not go to school?"
I stare at her tears about to fall. Autumn realizing her mistake, hugs me again.
"I miss my mom so much!" She just pats my shoulder and I cry into hers.
I pull away after awhile immediately feeling ashamed for crying on a girl. "Sorry you didn't ask for any of that."
"It's okay." She says sweetly.
"It's okay."
