Fate & Chance
Chapter Two
"Boys I have something that I'd like to ask you all. Now I've already cleared everything so the last thing is to see what your opinion would be. My daughter has just about finished up college and I'd like to spend some time with her this summer." Devereux spoke to the guys a few days after his less than pleasant phone call with his daughter. He had sat them all down after yet another soundcheck in a new city. Instead of standing as he usually did when he spoke to them he actually pulled up a chair and straddled it backwards, bringing him down level with them instead of towering above as a silent authority figure.
A look was passed all around between the bandmates and they looked to Ashton to speak. "Dev, I mean we want you to see your daughter, of course we don't want to keep you from her, but we kinda really don't want to lose you on our tour."
"Yea we need you mate. You can't just leave us hanging for the rest of this tour. You've been with us since the beginning and we don't want another handler." Calum cut in when Ashton finished and Luke and Michael nodded and voiced their simple agreements.
Devereux shook his head at the boys. "No. No you're not going to get rid of me that easily boys. I'm in this for the long haul, just as I told you from day one. You're my own boys and I'm not going anywhere. No I was wondering if you'd mind if Chancellorre tagged along for a bit? Y'know, come on tour for a few weeks or so."
"Strange name." Michael spouted causing all eyes to turn to him. He raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"Blame her mother. She goes by Chance." Devereux stated and smiled widely as he said his daughters preferred moniker. The boys all shared wide eyed looks at the soft expression on the rough mans face.
"Well I think I speak for all of us when we say its cool for you to bring her out." Luke spoke up, tugging at his lip ring as she spoke. Devereux smiled widely then stood from his chair.
"Thanks guys. She won't be a problem and it'll only be for a couple weeks at most." He put the chair back under the table and pulled his phone from his pocket to start setting everything up as he headed toward the door.
"She's twenty two then?" Michael asked grinning at Devereux. The large man stopped abruptly and turned to the bleached blonde. His relaxed demeanor from before was gone and Michael had to fight to keep the mischievous grin in place.
"Just turned twenty one in April actually. Why does that matter?" The tattoos on his arms twitched as he tensed and unconsciously flexed the muscles in his biceps. His hands balled up and the other boys worried for the state of the phone that looked exceptionally fragile in his bear like hands, and for Michaels health a bit as well.
"I was thinking maybe older women could be hot?" Michael had meant for his answer to come out light and funny, a bit of teasing at the man who was like another father to him. But it came out as more of a question. The room was silent as all the boys, Michael included, waited for the elder mans reaction. They were shocked when he laughed and they began to laugh along with him. That is until he abruptly stopped.
"Rethink that." Devereux's voice was still deep but quiet at his order before he walked out of the room. The click of the door was the only sound for a few moments.
"I think I wet myself." Michaels voice was nearly a squeak and the other boys began laughing at him.
"I thought you were a dead man!" Luke shouted.
"You are so damn stupid Mikey!" Calum said as he shoved at his best mate.
"You have the biggest balls ever. Like I'm talking coconuts!" Ashton said as he shook back his curls.
