Aleah pushed her way along the crowded downtown street and through the alley that she knew would take her to Felix. She hadn't come yesterday, or the day before that, or the day before that. She hoped he wasn't upset with her...

She pushed open the familiar glass door as she had done twice before, and trailed into the tiny shop.

"Hello?" She spoke quietly into the thick air, dust motes swimming in the beams of early sun.

"Look who decided to show up." Felix chuckled dryly, his tone low and scratchy, like he hadn't spoken in days. Aleah turned to look at him. His hair was matted and greasy, his clothes the same as every other day before this. Something told her he hadn't left the shop since she'd been there.

"Um... yeah, I'm so sorry. I was really busy... um..." She looked down at her feet, suddenly sheepish.

When she glanced back up at him, he had moved closer, no longer behind the desk.

"You had me worried, Aleah. I'm sorry, I just... no one ever comes in here. I'm all alone." He sighed and turned away from her again, walking behind the desk. She tried to smile at him, but couldn't. Something was very odd about Felix today. She stayed for only several minutes, before the newfound strangeness of Felix drove her away.

It continued like this for the next four days that Aleah came to visit, all in a row. She would stay for fifteen minutes, and then make up an excuse to leave early. Felix sensed something was happening, and asked her about it on her twentieth visit 9 months later.
