Ezlo was walking beside his apprentice through the market in the village.
Standing on the edge of the street was a group of kids- a younger girl Vaati knew by Ili, her older brother Foli, Foli’s friend Arbor, a slightly younger girl named Tina, and a girl who was Vaati’s age, Adulessa. Adulessa had dark green eyes, along with curly light auburn-almost blonde hair. She was very intelligent, and very pretty.
“Hey,” Ezlo nudged him, catching him in the act of looking her way. Vaati snapped his head towards his master in shock. “Looks like somebody’s a bit smitten.”
“Be quiet,” Vaati whispered, blushing. “They can hear us!”
“Please, they don’t even know what smitten means,” Ezlo chuckled. “I’m going into the store, why don’t you go say hello?”
“Ezlo-” It was too late. They had seen him looking over their way, and it was only natural for Vaati to go to them. He tensed up, but Ezlo pushed him on discreetly as they parted ways.
“Alright,” Vaati thought. “I’ll just say hi to her.”
The others looked at him as he approached the group.
“Um, hi,” Vaati smiled shyly.
“Hey, you’re Ezlo’s kid, aren’t you?” Adulessa greeted him with a surprised expression. As shy as he was, Vaati had never just came up to anyone like that before- especially Picori his age.
“Well, we’re not naturally related, but yes,” Vaati explained, giving a sheepish smile.
“Oh, I see,” she nodded. The others looked at him with somewhat confused expressions.
“His eyes are red…” Ili whispered- loudly- to Tina
“And are those tattoos on your face?” Foli asked him with an amused smirk.
“Hey!” Adulessa nudged him. “Don’t be so rude!”
“Ya, you know he’s learning sorcery,” Arbor added. “He could seriously hurt you.”
“What?” Vaati asked, shocked by their assumption. “I’d never do anything like that.”
“See, guys, he’s not bad,” Adulessa whispered sharply.
“But really, why do you look like that?” Ili asked again.
“Ya, I heard you were cursed by a witch or something!” Foli, who Vaati was beginning to recognize as the leader of the group, said.
“I heard he was bitten by a bat!” Arbor, his minion, laughed.
