"Hello, Lady," Dante said.

"Lady?" I repeated quietly. Didn't they mention her before?

"You have to hide!" Patty whispered. "I'll distract them, then you and Noche run up to your room quietly!"

"But-" I began.

"No buts! Wait for my signal!" Before I could ask what signal, she ran up to Lady and Dante as Lady asked about the luggage next to the door. "Have you seen what's in the kitchen?" she said loudly. It was obvious that she was trying to hide something and I almost smacked my forehead.

"The kitchen?" Dante said. He looked at Lady, shrugged, then back down to Patty. "What's there?"

I slipped down lower against the couch and raised my feet up. From where they were at, no one could see me over or under the couch.

"I heard Dante cooked for once!" She said.

"I what?" Dante said.

"Come on!" Patty said. "Let's see if he is a good cook, Lady!"

I heard their footsteps recede and peeked over the couch.

Patty and Dante stood in the doorway with a woman. She had short black hair and wore a white shirt that exposed her midriff and short black shorts. She had some guns on her too. Her brown boots came up to her knees and I made the obvious assumption that this must be Lady.

She began to turn in my direction as she scanned the room. She may have felt my gaze on her.

"Dante, is there someone else here?" she asked, confirming my guess.

My breath hitched. Would Dante give me away to this woman? Or would he play dumb with her?

That's when it hit me. They did say the name Lady before. Patty said she was mean. And either I'm figuring this out by myself or putting words in Dante's mouth, but I think he said that she was a...

I slapped a hand over my mouth to hide my gasp.

She would kill me, or at least try to, if she knew what I was.

I began hoping, because I can't pray (it gives me a bad migraine and a burning sensation), that Dante would stay quiet about me.

"What do you mean?" he said. "Why would there be anyone else here?"

I released my held breath with a quiet "Whew."

"Alright, fine," Lady said. She sounded frustrated and like she didn't entirely believe them. But what else could she do? Scour the place?

Well, she probably could, but I don't think Dante would take very kindly to that.

I heard them walk a little farther, then chairs skidding across the floor. I remembered how the table was tucked in and how she wouldn't be able to see me if she had her back to me. I could only hope that they had it set up that way.

I took off my shoes and scooped up Noche. Then, as quiet yet quickly as I could, I went to the kitchen door. I peeked in to make sure Lady was turned away, and she was. They were all three talking and Lady apparently came to Dante to ask some questions about the new kind of demons running around.

I almost threw up as I quickly realized that she was asking about Crystal and me. Maybe there were a few more hanging around too, but I had no idea if there was or not, so I could only assume the worst.

I slinked away from the doorway and to the stairs. I didn't even go up two stairs before my foot slipped out from under me. I screamed and threw Noche up to land on the top step. Then I hit my head on one step and my ribs on the edge of another. I howled in pain as I slid down the few steps. When I stopped at the bottom, I rolled to the side and into a sitting position and began to access the damage. I heard footsteps loudly rush towards me.

I flushed in embarrassment. This has to be on the Top 10 Most Embarrassing Things a Demon Can Do list.

Damn slippery socks...

I looked up at the three with a shy smile. "So, you must be Lady. It's nice to meet you."
