Prologue

stop the flames before all is lost, before the fire engulfs the lake; ceasing life, and destroying what is meant to be. The words echoed around the walls of twigs and vines. The smell of herbs and honey, and fresh water was gone. Instead the air was thick and heavy with the pungent smell of death and blood. For a moment the she-cat thought she had gone blind; Panicking, she struggled to move or open her eyes. Then light filtered in through branches above. Reaching for it, the light dripped through. Confused, she touched the drop of sunlight. As her paw touched to shiny puddle, it turned black, spreading above her. Before all is lost. Opening her eyes, they scanned the area as she found herself catching her breath. Her heart raced as she stepped out, feeling weak. The camp was lively; Ivystar was putting out a patrol. After the cats dispersed, Ivystar met her gaze. He must have noticed her fear-scent, because she tried her best to act calm as he came across the green-grass clearing. "Are you okay, Patchwing?" The tom asked.  

"No, we need to talk-" She mewed low. "-In private; It's urgent."
