Chapter Four: Friends or Foes?

~The Next Day At UA~

Midoriya POV

I was walking to school when I saw a familiar heterochromatic boy. "Todoroki-kun!" I yelled hoping to catch his attention, which I did. I finally caught up to him and we started talking about tryouts the day before.

"So, Midoriya," Todoroki started

"Yeah?" I answered wondering what he was going to say next.

"How did you throw the ball in 0.000001 seconds? It seems impossible." Todoroki asked.

"To be honest, Todoroki-kun, I don't even know how I did it..." I said sheepishly rubbing the back of my neck. "I guess using more of my quirk makes the ball go faster..."

"So you have some kind of strength quirk?" Todoroki asked.

"I don't really know... maybe it's like an enhancement quirk... that comes with a price..." I said, mumbling the last part to myself.

"What did you say?" Todoroki asked.

"It's nothing." I said smiling at Todoroki-kun.

~In Class~

"Deku!" I whipped my head around to see the owner of the voice and my eyes immediately gave off a scared look.

"Yes, Kacchan?" I answered, somehow not stuttering.

"Meet me outside." Kacchan said.

'Why would he want to meet me outside? Was he going to use his quirk on me? No way, he's my friend... he wouldn't do that... maybe he just wants to talk... yeah, look on the positive side.' I got up to leave but someone placed their hand on my shoulder to stop me.

"Midoriya wait." The mystery person said.

"What is it Todoroki-kun?" I answered, turning around to face him.

"Do you want me to go with you? I mean, normally when someone says for you to meet them outside, or say, let's take this outside it's normally means they want to fight you. It's not that I'm doubting you, it's just. Looking out for a future teammate." Todoroki said.

"I'll be fine Todoroki-kun. I trust Kacchan. He won't hurt me but, if he does, I'll make sure I tell you first." I answered, trying to reassure him that I would be fine.

"Okay, if you say so, but, if he hurts you and you can't play, even just the first practice, at your best. I won't hesitate to do something." Todoroki said, worry filling his eyes.

"I'll be fine Todoroki-kun. I can protect myself. With whatever this quirk is..." I said laughing a little at the end while rubbing the back of my neck as a slight blush crept onto my cheeks. 'Why am I blushing?' I wondered.

"Ok... like I said before, I won't hesitate to do something if he hurts you." Todoroki said.

"Oh yeah, Todoroki-kun that reminds me, what's your quirk?" I asked.

"Oh, it's half-cold half-hot. My right side is ice and my left is fire, even though I don't really use it that much." Todoroki answered.

"Why not? Is there something wrong with your fire?" I said, subconsciously reaching for his left hand and holding it up.

He forced his hand out of my grip, a slight blush on his cheeks. "Nothing wrong with it, it's just, personal reasons..." Todoroki finally said.

"O-oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to intrude on anything personal." I said slightly backing away with my head down.

"N-no. It's fine. You were only curious and that's fine..." Todoroki managed to say.

I lifted my head with a small smile. "Anyway, I should get going, don't want to keep Kacchan waiting!" I said as I rubbed the back of my neck. Todoroki nodded as I turned to leave. I walked out of the classroom, first step out and I felt all of the fear rush over me. 'Could Todoroki be right? Does Kacchan really want to fight? No, he wouldn't want to hurt me, right?' I slapped myself on both of my cheeks to snap myself back to reality and hopefully away from any negative thoughts.

I took a deep breath before walking outside. "Kacchan? Are you out here?" I asked as I looked around hoping to spot my childhood friend. "I'm right here Deku." I heard an annoyed voice from behind me say. I jumped slightly and quickly turned around to face him. "Hey! Uh.. why did you ask me to come out here?" I asked.

"Why are you so good as baseball all of a sudden? You were recommended for the best baseball team!" Kacchan yelled at me getting angry. Fear filled my body as he started to raise his fist. I watched in fear as his fist came closer and closer to my face. I tried using my quirk to possibly try and dodge but I couldn't think straight. I started panicking, as soon as I knew what to do, I felt Kacchan's fist hit my cheek. The impact made me fall to the ground. I placed my hand over where Kacchan had hit me and regretted it immediately.

"I'm sorry..." I muttered under my breath. "What was that, Deku?" Kacchan asked in a mocking tone. "I'm sorry..." I repeated a little louder. "I'm sorry that I was recommended, I'm sorry that I love baseball, I'm sorry for applying to UA, I'm sorry for everything." Kacchan smirked as he kicked my shin, "you better be sorry you worthless Deku." Kacchan walked past me after kicking me one last time on the side of my torso. I sat there for a while, allowing a few tears to roll done my face.

I slowly got up and started walking back to the classroom, not expecting there to be many people there yet, I opened the door. I looked up and noticed most the class was there already, 'Great' I thought. I walked to my desk where my stuff was already placed and sat down. I felt someone tap my shoulder. Looking up, I recognize a familiar half and half haired boy. "Hey Todoroki-kun." I said as I managed a smile.

"Hey." He replied nonchalantly, I noticed his eyes widen the slightest bit. 'He must have noticed the bruise' I thought to myself. "M-Midoriya, are you okay?" He asked, the slightest bit of worry in his voice. "I'm fine." I lied, if I was being honest, it hurt a lot, but I've been hurt worse. "Are you sure? You have a bruise on your cheek, did Bakugo do this?" He asked. Just when I was about to respond, Mr. Aizawa walked in and started the class.

I stood from my desk, ready to walk outside and go home for the day. I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked back with little emotion. "Hey." I said. The person slightly flinched not expecting me to be like that. "Midoriya, are you okay? Your not acting like you normally do." Todoroki said. "I'm fine." I responded as I threw my backpack over my shoulder and walked out. 'I can't wait to get some sleep.' I thought as I let a small smile appear onto my face.

A/n: hey guys! Sorry it's been so long and that I've been so inactive on this story. I've just been busy and kind of forgot about this book. I'll try to update more. This is probably my favorite book out of all of my books. (I know I have a lot because I just get a lot of ideas but never update most of them) I'm trying not to forget about this again, this was my first book I took seriously and I just forgot about it for almost a year! I'm really stupid sometimes. Sorry again.
