Louis POV

Every morning since my first day of college my mornings were simple; I'd wake up, take a shower, get dressed, make breakfast. But today is different. Today I start my new job and I'm honestly terrified. I thought I tanked my interview with Mrs. Foreman or, as she requested me to call her, Sophie. After I graduated CSU at the top of my class, my mom begged me to move back home and apply at this new publishing office and to my surprise I actually got the job.

I grab my car keys and head out the door, quickly stopping by a small coffee shop on my way to work. All those years of school and I'm finally done and moving on to this. I can't believe I was hired as manager.

When I get to the office I have a note on my desk, I read it over and see that it's from my boss' secretary.

Hi Louis, Mrs. Foreman is out of town for the week. She has asked that you forgive her for not giving you proper instructions on your work schedule and duties for your first day. She asks that you simply keep an eye on the interns in your division, as there are only 12. She will give you her instructions when she returns next Monday. Thanks for understanding, and welcome.

I take a seat in my new office chair and type in the computer pass code I received this morning. After filling out a few credentials on the computer and finishing some paper work I decide to get some coffee in the break room and check up on everyone. Outside of my office are cubicles - which I assume is where the interns work, I look around studying everyone when I recognize a familiar face. I could be wrong, but that looks like Samantha my old high school girlfriend. She leaves from her desk after answering a phone call and I duck behind a cubicle. Why am I hiding?

I walk to the break room after she gets on the elevator, where is she going? There are a few people in here on their lunch hour I assume, I grab a doughnut and pour myself a cup of coffee. I sit down and introduce myself to a few of them, I find out that 2 of them are interns on my floor and the others are from the division on the floor above. As I'm making chit chat with them I see her again getting off the elevator. I walk back to my office casually, trying not to make eye contact and just as I enter my office she looks my way. Did she see me? Why do I keep doing this, stop it Louis she's just a girl you used to date and now you happen to be her boss, kind of. I tend to the rest of my work and finish filling out some papers before the work day is finally over. All the interns are gone so I pack up my unneeded briefcase and head to the elevator.

Samantha's POV

I finish editing the manuscript for the day and I pack my stuff up to leave. Why am I always the last one to leave the office? I knock over a few papers on my desk so I crawl under my desk to grab them when I hear a door close. Who could that be? I wonder.

I quickly put the papers back on my desk straightening them out, when I turn to see the person I was hoping not to run into today. His expression mirrors my own I'm sure; I grab my purse and my phone off my desk as he decides to speak up.

"Samantha, I thought- I mean I could tell, but I didn't. Um, hi." He scratches the back of his head and does that weird thing I always hated, with his feet.

"Louis, hi. So I see you're the new manager here."

"Yeah, I just got out of college and my Mom said I had to apply here."

"Oh, that's awesome to hear. Congratulations." We both begin walking to the elevator together and he tells me about everything he did after graduating from high school. I just stand there and nod along, not knowing what else to do. We step into the elevator and I push for floor two.

"So do you want to maybe go get a coffee sometime or something?" he asks.

"I don't think that's such a great idea, I'm sorry." The elevator dings signifying that we've reached the second floor and the doors open. I step out of the elevator saying goodbye, when he stops the door and follows me.

"Listen Samantha, I know things ended badly with us but I really wish you could just let things go."

He isn't serious right now is he? Things ended horribly, if only he knew. The only good thing that came from our relationship was Micah; which he knows nothing about. I ignore him and walk into the daycare. I grab Micah's bag and hold onto his hand while signing him out. As I walk back towards the elevator I can tell Louis expression has shifted.

"Samantha, I didn't know."

Of course he didn't because I never told him.

Yay for chapter two! I love you guys for reading, please tell me your opinions it would make me very happy. Stay beautiful(:
