~Death in the woods~

1- L I T T L E J A N E

Far in the woods, within the enormous trees, the sunlight could not reach the ground because of the cloudy leaves which stopped any sun ray from coming.

The woods seems to be a nightmare to most of the children, god knows what creatures could be found there.

It was dark in the woods even during the day.

Deep in the woods sat little Jane, she doesn't know how she got there, with her ragged cape and worn bloodied kashmir dress, she wiped her face with her dirty hand.

" How did I get here ? " She thought to herself again, for the last 15 min she has been asking herself that question.

She wondered through the woods trying to get out, but it seems as if it gets darker every time she takes a step forward in that direction.

The trees getting more dull and more out of colours, the small animals seems to vanish and dark figures seem to appear.

She was scared by the time.

A very loud howl could be heared not from very far.

She turned around as she felt something move in the bushes behind her.

She walked fast in the other direction she came from.

The creature in the woods followed her slowly.

She began to panic and run as fast as she could, but the creature kept chasing after her with every step she took, its footsteps seemed to get closer.

Suddenly it stopped.

She stood checking if it was anywhere to been seen until her eyes landed on it... An amber, red eyes staring at her from the dark.

Her heart sank in. She stared at him with her eyes wide open, they almost popped out of her skull.

It slowly took steps in her direction not taking its eyes off her, Looking at her like a prey.

It looks like a wolf but alot more bigger almost as big as a grizzly bear, with a pitch black fur covering it.

She wanted to scream but felt nothing coming out.

It howled the most scary howl she ever heard in her life.

She wanted to run but felt every muscle freeze,  unable to move one move, not even blinking.

Last thing she saw was the black wolf getting ready to attack her with its sharp teeth, she screamed her lungs out and closed her eyes.

But she felt nothing.

' Am I dead ? ' little Jane thought to herself.

She opened her eyes to see a creature standing right in front of her, protecting her.

It looked like a wolf, it was smaller than the big one but it was still bigger than a normal wolf, with its white fur with caramel highlights.

It was facing the black one and they started circling around, eyeing each-others movements slowly.

The black wolf looked straight in Jane's eyes and slowly backed off and disappeared into the bushes.

She looked at her bright savior, she was about to approach him but he ran.

"Wait !" She yelled at him and started following him into the woods, she ran fast stepping on hard rocks and getting tangled between branches, on the other hand her savior was running as if it was the red carpet.

With every step she took she felt the woods getting lighter, like sun could reach out giving its warmth, the trees were bright and its colours were popping.

She stopped to catch her breathe, she was so tired, she felt like she was running for her life.

"Jane !"

A voice called over.

She could recognize that voice.

"Jane dear"

"Grandma ?!" She called back looking around checking her surroundes

Her eyes layed on her her grandma standing in the distance, smiling at her.

She ran and have her the tightest hug she can give her and she felt tears running down her cheeks.

"Grandma what is happening ?" She sobbed. Her grandma gave her a warm smile before patting on her head
" I am so proud of you Jane, you made it while I couldn't, you're very strong" she told her.

"What do you mean grandma ?" Jane furrowed her brows.

Her grandma did not response, instead, she took her hand and guided her,

It was getting lighter and lighter until Jane found herself at the edge of the forest, In front of her was a beautiful garden with a road through it.

"Run Jane till the end of the road" her grandma told her.

"Come with me grandma" Jane offered taking her grandma's hand.

" Oh no I shall not" her grandma stepped back. " I am meant to stay here, this where I am meant to be" she gave her a warm smile and slightly pushed her to move to the garden " go now".

Jane smiled at her grandma and then ran, she ran and ran till all she could see was light.

Jane woke up in her hospital bed, everything was blurry at first but then she began to make things out.

" Oh you're awake ! " The nurse said smiling " sorry if I woke you up but I have some happy news for you ! " She said clapping few times .

She came close to Jane and smiled " you're now a cancer survivor, Jane " then she kissed her forehead

1 week later in the graveyard.

Jane walked through the tombstones, looking at each name till she reached the one she was looking for.

Elizabeth Jane Murphy

" Hi grandma " she smiled while placing some flowers

" I am now cancer free grandma ! We were both in the same battle, but I only survived"

Jane looked towards the woods near the graveyard and decided to go have a look.

She passed through the garden till the woods .

She stood there at the edge of the wood not daring to enter.

She wondered if it was real or just a normal dream.

But the only thing she was sure about that she escaped that creature

That creature was death.
