Cole

You gotta love school. Not.

I was able to turn in all of my assignments on time, with the hope of getting a decent grade. But what was horrible was that as soon as those were over and done with, I got even more.

Ugh. Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh.

With all of that in mind, I was not in a good mood entering History. I took my seat in the middle of the back row, and waited to see what more torture I would be put through. But things were definitely not as bad as I expected.

Mr. Collins waited until all of the students were present and seated before speaking. "Quiet down, quiet down," he ordered. When the kids didn't listen, Mrs. Mellor gave us all a glare that immediately shut us up.

"Thank you," Mr. Collins continued. "Now, before I start class, I have an announcement."

This was going to be interesting.

"In honor of what we are currently learning, I have gotten permission from the principal to host a trip to the Museum of Natural History" -there were murmurs throughout the classroom-"My hope is to go in at least two weeks, if not sooner. It will have to be on a weekend, obviously, but the exact details are still being worked out. I would like to start the money collecting as soon as possible. It will be a little pricey for the train rides, so I would like you all to take it up with your parents." He began handing out permission slips and information sheets. "I would like the slips back by next week if you are allowed."

Once the papers were all handed out, he started setting up for the lesson. While he did that, I began filling out the slip and thought about the trip.

This was the one class that I appreciated now. No projects, no essays, a field trip. A nice, relaxing field trip. I had a whole knew outlook on History. Thank you, Mr. Collins, thank you very much.

"Hey, Cole," Alan whispered, nudging my arm.

I looked over at him.

"Do you think we'll see any hot girls in the renowned N.Y?" He wiggled his eyebrows.

I huffed and shook my head. "You're an idiot," I whispered back.

"Maybe I'll be able to get some digits."

I stared at him like he was insane. "And how exactly would you be able to hook up with her if she lives in a completely different state?"

"Love will find a way."

I rolled my eyes. "What am I even talking about? You don't even have a chance of getting any girl's number in the first place."

He glared at me. "How are you so sure?"

"Because I know you."

"You're rude."

"That's part of what makes me so great. Now shut up before Mrs. Mellor gives us both the evil eye."

He scowled at me for a second longer, then faced Mr. Collins as he began teaching.

Finally, I can enjoy something, I thought.

That was when I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
