Chapter 2: British Babysitters

The early morning sun streamed through my window as my eyes flitted open. The clock on my bedside table read 5:50 am. It was way too early, and I was suffering from severe jet lag. There was no point in trying to sleep, I was already fully awake. My aunt was still asleep, and I assumed Lux was too. As I laid in bed I thought back to last night. Aunt Lou had given me all crucial details concerning the band she worked for who, come to find out, was One Direction. When she mentioned their name, it was vaguely familiar to me. They were a British/ Irish boy band. There were five members by the names of Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson. My aunt had warned my that being associated with one direction meant paparazzi and fans. I would have to be extremely careful of what I did while I was on tour with them, and I would have go "incognito" during the duration of the tour. Even my aunt had a fan base, or so she told me. I would, in fact, be traveling on a tour bus with other stylists and people who, as Lou put it, management thought necessary to be with " the boys" round the clock. We would be gone for around 6- 8 months and when we returned I would go to live with Lou , her fiancé Tom atkin, and little Lux. Lou had said that management was unsure of whether to publicly release information about me and the fact I would be on tour with one direction. My thoughts on this whole " band" craziness were more negative than positive . Here I am, a sixteen year old girl, traveling with a boy band having to hide from crazed fans and making sure not to do anything "unacceptable". Now I know how the royal family feels...No one even asked me if I wanted to be here, but, I reminded myself, it was a much better situation than the one I was previously in. I glanced at the clock and realized an hour had passed. I climbed out of bed and quickly made my way to the shower. The warm water felt amazing on my tense muscles and I took my time, humming all the while. I turned the water off and climbed out of the shower wrapping a fluffy, white towel around me. I made my way to my room, the rest of the apartment was still quiet, except for some rustling around in the kitchen. I pulled on a white top ,some shorts, and ran a brush through my tangly hair. My stomach growled, signaling it was time for breakfast. The eggs and bacon smelled amazing and I helped myself while Lou was dressing Lux for the day. I was sitting at the table eating when she came in holding a tired looking Lux. "Morning! How did you sleep?" " Well enough," I replied. She opened a jar baby food, spooning it out for Lux. " So,as you know, we're kicking of the tour in Australia , and today I have a meeting with the other stylists to plan the wardrobe for the tour." She continued to talk until baby Lux threw her spoon across the table. "So, that means...." , I interrupted. " It means that this is a great opportunity for you to get to know the guys and they also volunteered to watch Lux while I am at the meeting." Uhhhh ... 5 babysitters. Great, Just what I need. I'm in NewYork freakin' City! I want to go shopping! " Are you sure about that? I can just watch Lux by myself, if you want." I quickly come up with an excuse. " No love, that'll be fine. Lux loves the boys anyway, don't you sweetheart?" The baby giggles as her mother taps her nose lightly.There goes that plan! After moments of deliberation, I resignedly spoon food onto the plate laid out for me. Just as I am about to stuff food into my mouth in an unladylike manner, the sound of voices coming down the hall catch my attention. I hear multiple footsteps approaching the door. As if she read my mind, my aunt chimes in, " Sounds like the boys now. They're going to wake up this whole floor." She adds the last part as she shakes her head and walks towards the door. She unlatches the door and it opens wide to reveal five pairs of eyes curiously staring at me.
