"Do you not know how to sleep in?" Maria groaned as she was met with Poppy's glowing aura before nine in the morning. Though still tired from wanting to finish her book, Maria stepped aside to allow Poppy to enter."No I guess not, I'm just usually up around this time naturally." Poppy shrugged as she slipped off her shoes, "It's really humid today so I may have to change plans." She explained further as she looked around the small space she was in. The contrast between her open home and Maria's was bigger than she had expected. It seemed the only word she could find to describe it was just dull.
"So we're staying inside today?" Maria internally cheered, as Poppy nodded her head. Maria ushered the brightly dressed girl down the hall until they reached her bedroom. It wasn't nearly as cluttered as Poppy's had appeared. It was a standard bedroom, with not much intel to imply a teenage girl lived within the walls. Her bed sat comfortable in the middle of her room, a desk cramped in one corner and her dresser in another beside the closet. There wasn't much that compared to Poppy's intense collections, besides a picture frame on the white desk and a large conch shell beside it. There was a small stack of books across the top of the dresser, where Alice still waited for Maria to continue with her adventures. Other than that the baby blue walls didn't hold much within them.
"These walls are making me feel a bit blue," Poppy grinned as she looked around the room, before bouncing onto the bed.
"Was that a pun?"
"I have no idea what you mean," Poppy shrugged, as Maria sat beside her. Silence followed, as Poppy racked her brain for things she could say.
"I was going to say a joke about sodium, but Na....." Maria stared at the girl blankly as the words left her mouth.
"You sea this is were you laugh, but you know if this is the kind of audience I'm getting I'm leafing," Poppy giggled, as Maria put her face in her hands.
"I can't believe you're doing this right now." The girl groaned as Poppy somehow let out even more jokes, some that weren't even enjoyable.
"What, don't you find me punny?" Poppy erupted into laughter after that, and Maria allowed herself to grin as she covered her face. Though the brunette wasn't planning on giving up until she received a real laugh from the other.
"Do you know why I've decided to make puns today?" Reluctantly Maria shook her head in reply, "It's because it's my respunsibility." Maria shook her head in disappointment as she found herself seemingly walking into that one.
"Are you drunk? Did you take something before coming here?" Maria questioned as she finally looked up.
"I swear to drunk, I'm not God, but seriously, stay in drugs, eat your school, and don't do vegetables," Poppy stopped before looking at Maria, "I promise this is not how I meant for that one to go, scout's honor."
"Are you done yet?" Maria asked as Poppy recovered from her few minutes of nonstop jokes.
"Yes, I believe so," Poppy nodded as she brushed her hair out of her face, though Maria didn't have a convinced look on her face as she spoke again.
"Are you shore?"
Poppy instantly erupted into laughter again, her side hurt by now. Though Maria wasn't as easily amused she let out a light laugh, though most of it was a reaction from Poppy's loud fit of giggles. Though her goal was to simply get Maria to laugh, it was a plus that she added in her own seemingly harmless pun to ignite more smiles. Though her third reason that day wasn't entirely something entertaining, it was still an odd scene when Gloria arrived home later that day from her job at the diner. It was a case of forced humor, that on any other day would have been heavily insulted and mocked carelessly.
Time passed and eventually Poppy's puns and jokes seemed to finally run dry, leaving Maria waiting for an explanation of what she had just been forced through.
"You smiled, and if you're gone then no one will be able to enjoy it." was the only thing she offered in response, "However I admit those puns were terrible."
"The were bearly tolerable, I almost kicked you out." Maria humored further, causing Poppy to fall into another fit of laughter. Eventually Gloria called them into the kitchen where she had ordered pizza for dinner....again.
