Chapter 19, A plan
Morning came, the sun shining through the large glass windows of the spire, flooding the main room with early morning light, illuminating the spire like a beacon in the heart of the city.
There was no sign of what I had witnessed the previous night. There were no signs that I had even sat in front of the roaring fire which was now some charred logs in the fireplace without an ember in sight.
The morning was just as any other, with the exception of the fact that we were guests of the king. The only other difference that this morning held was that I was the last to wake. This was odd as I was usually awake long before the rest of the party.
I sat up in my bed, Argus curled up at the end of my bed with his massive jaws resting on my legs.
My room was plain, simple, not at all homely. It was just the way I liked it. This way it didn't remind me of home. Not that I have one anymore.
I got out of bed, Threw on some trousers and a loose shirt, and proceeded down from the top floor of the spire to the dining table.
'You look like hell' Mort stated at the sight of me.
'Charming as ever.' I replied softly.
I sat at the table as Killbane had finished cooking breakfast and had began to serve it, downing a large mug of water in the process.
We ate breakfast, I returned to my room to properly dress myself before we set out into the city for preparation to catch Cerion, the outlaw.
Cerion. Cerion was notorious. This meant that he had drawn a lot of attention to himself, thus getting the king involved by sending us to capture him. Like the majority of inhabitants of Egivere, he too, was a dragonborn. This would have made finding him a problem, if it wasn't for the wanted posters everywhere displaying his face.
We left the spire, only to be greeted by four guards. One for each of us. They were to be our escorts around the city. Just what I wanted. A big beacon saying "we're working for the king".
We obeyed the kings request of the escort, and headed out for supplies. Magical supplies. Magical supplies powerful enough to bring down this famed outlaw.
That was the plan. Instead, Mort found himself some potions of "random effects". So he handed me one, telling me it was a potion that would cause me to produce no noise, to which I downed it without hesitation. It was then that I began to levitate up to the ceiling of the potions shop.
It was for around a minute before I came crashing to the ground.
Mort was in hysterics. Sven was in hysterics. Killbane was in Hysterics. The four guards who were our escort, were in hysterics. The shopkeeper however, was not amused.
So, it was the exact reason I drank another.
Now, I dont know what happened as my vision went black, but according to the witnesses, I turned into a flower pot for a couple of minutes. Of all things, I didn't think that'd bge possible. And after that, it wasn't long before we all had drank them.
Sven summoned a unicorn for a minute. Mort drank two simultaneously and exploded with magical energy as potions don't mix.
We messed around for a while before buying trapping equipment, smoke bombs and a method of communication via magical means.
We knew of four sepatare locations where we could find Cerion as he was seen here a lot of the time. The escort informed us of these locations. So, we decided to scout them out for the next four days of the week. One day in each location, analysing all possible ways in and out of the location. This is where our runestones would come in useful. We could split up and tell the party if we saw him through these magical stones.
The next days we scouted a location, taking notes, making drawings, planning how to get in and out of each of the four locations.
The first we checked out was his outpost. A small tavern he had claimed as his own as a hub for hs gang.
The second place we checked out was the temple of earth. There had been sightings of him here frequently as he followed this god.
The third place we checked was the docks to scope where we could lay ambush if we failed to find him before the day of the heist.
The final place we checked out was armoury, where he was supposedly going to hit before he ran his heist.
We scanned all of the locations that we had investigated thoroughly. We found an entrance and exit into every single one of them. Multiple in some instances.
It was just like the old days of when I was with the thieves, ruining the city of Gorgon. It brought me back to when I was a child again. Planning heists, petty theft, all of the things I did to survive. It also reminded me of my contract assassination work, which was closer to the current job.
Anyway, moving off of the past and back to the task at hand, it's time to catch him. SO, we split up over the city, one at each of the locations. I took the tavern, Mort took the temple, Sven took the armoury, and Killbane took the docks. We were ready. All we had to do know was wait. And then my runestone activated. Someone had found him....
