Chapter 27, A few days of effort

After our beat-down, we rested, then resumed our search. We headed back to Stanlow, to gather information on our search.

Once we arrived, I conducted my own investigations before running out of leads. It was then that I decided to reestablish my connections, to retake Obirus. I could reclaim my home, and find information on Malcer from the people there.

I gathered the group in the meeting room on the Black Wolf.

'I have a plan, and it won't be easy... I want to take back Obirus. If we succeed, we'll have the resources to find Malcer. Besides, I have some long-overdue "business" with the current leaders.'

'Are you sure that's the best move. We have only a short time to clear his bounty and keep us off of their hit list' Sven warned.

'I am sure, I mean, Sven, it's not the first city we've overthrown the rulers of, how can this be any worse' I argued.

The group agreed to my plan, and we set off. Before we left however, another airship set off in the same direction with the soldiers of the kings army. We thought nothing of it until we came across the wreckage where Obirus should've been, where a crater now stood with veins of purple energy running into it.

Next to the crater was a cave, surrounded by more airship wreckages.

We landed and investigated the cave, only to find an old man being held there against his will by a "Man in a hood". He had to kill to keep the city in the Shadowfell. It was then that he turned into a vile creature and attacked us. I reacted before the creature, and opened up a large wound on the creature with my new blades. I was loving the faster draw time of these swords.

The fight was over soon, and with the death of the guardian of the realm, a large noise sounded from outside of the cave. We rushed to investigate.

I almost fell to my knees, tears in my eyes. My home was standing before me once again. Finally, I could get some of my long-awaited revenge.

I made a slow approach, not because I was afraid of entering, but because I was fighting back my emotions of my childhood.

I had learned the name of my parents' killer, Brandon. I knew his face from my childhood. The blonde elf would pay for his murder.

This thought is what allowed me to cross the boundary of the large gate and enter my home town. I entered first, but I think my friends were showing respect, after all, it had been twenty two years since I last crossed this threshold.

Not a moment after we all crossed the boundary of the town, the town, and everyone in it were brought back into the Shadowfell. Looks like they knew someone had broken into the city, so they would be on high alert.

Inside the town, the streets weren't at all how I remembered. Everything was in disrepair, no one dared walk the streets if they could help it.

'We should split up, I have an errand to run before we start our liberation. I'll meet you at the local tavern; the Whispering Wyrm' I said.

They didn't argue, then knew what this mission meant to me. They also probably guessed where I was going. I had a matter to attend.

Chapter 28, Reminiscences

I stood, hooded and cloaked at the gate. The wrought iron cold in my hand as I lifted the lock, fighting back tears as I knew what I must do.

I lifted the latch and opened the gate to the cemetery of Obirus.

The cemetery of Obirus was a large open field within the confines of the town wall, encompassed by the wall and a wrought iron fence around its perimeter. A lone tree stood in the center, a small shack next to it. The groundskeepers hut.
