"Cheating doesn't work all the time''
It was mid of October and the Trial Exam was marching towards us. We had to do trial examination before we sit for board exam.
I could vividly remember how well I had done my past papers til then. Chemistry and Mathematics I hated with passion. I never did well in these two papers all the time although I did quite well in Physics.
Actually, I dreamed of becoming an engineer but my ability didn't match with my interest. Oh yes! I was quite confident with Biology since from class eleven I took bio-science.
I never memorised the definitions since it was next to nothing. My many mates applied this method of memorising and such brilliant one from them is Zangmo. She is a bookworm who all the time sticks with books.
She scored nineteen or even twenty out of twenty all the time and topped all the time. She has oval-shaped face and wears big spectacles. She doesn't talk much with other and we call her 'silent killer'.
"Class? All the best for your tomorrow's paper. I hope you'll do better." Wished Mr. Gyeltshen, our biology teacher after explaining Kerbs Cycle. He taught that Pyruvic acid formed during Glycolysis is used as a raw material in Kerbs cycle. These three atoms of carbon using two molecules of ATP, produces CoA(co-enzyme)
"Thank you, sir!" The class chorused.
Next Morning:
"Son? Wake up." I heard my mom calling for the breakfast. I ate the food speedily and went to school, Sarpang Higher Secondary School.
The scenario was strange, unusually different. Everyone seemed studying strictly. Their faces glowed when the sun stroke their white chlorine-free paper.
In the assembly, the exam secretary talked about 'dos and don'ts', but the students were busy in their own world--- some reading and some seriously memorising. I looked at Zangmo , and she was becoming inpatient.
"Best of luck" is the word I could hear from all of them, maximum of them pretentious, though.
I felt strange looking at the papers. I was perspiring. I saw a bottle of water next to Zangmo and drank the water. She was writing peacefully until then she started to panic. The invigilator asked her what happened and she sheepishly replied nothing.
She time and again looked at me but I didn't bother to heed. I could see sweats on her face but didn't know why? When I was again opening the cap of the bottle to drink, I saw something from inside. I looked at it meticulously. There were many scribbles written from inside. I understood the condition. She was really cunning. I could see her frowning.
When I finished writing, I came out of the room. After sometime, she too came. She was brimmed with tears and blushed. She cried and her friends solaced her. I could hear her utter, " I will never leave that son of a bitch!"
I went near her and gave her bottle. She enquiringly stared at me---with full of anger.
"You---yo---I will never leave you like this." She snarled.
"Zangmo, I don't have any fault. It's your own fault. Cheating doesn't work all the time! I am sorry for that." I said and left the place.
