The Arising: A New Start of Life

Chapter 25

THE NEXT DAY

"I want Mabel, Josh, Brianna, Ana and Alleigh with me. We will take the van and we will head to Murray Bridge first. Then we will turn around and head to Adelaide. Then come back here. We will give them walkie talkies Alleigh and I found and that's how we will stay in contact" I said.

We all got into the van. Frances walked over to the gate and opened it. I drove out and got onto the road heading towards Murray Bridge. From Tungkillo to Murray Bridge is about a 45 minute drive. But then Murray Bridge to Adelaide is about a two hour drive. Maybe more.

"Who's the leader of the Murray Bridge Safe Zone?" I asked Ana.

"His name is Anthony. He's stubborn and a bit weird sometimes but he hates Thomas so he will most likely join you" Ana said.

"What about the Adelaide Oval Safe Zone?" I asked.

"His name is Arman. He's more like you. Wants his people to survive. He respects each and everyone of them. He's a good man. But he would be a bit harder to get on your side though. Mostly because he doesn't want his people to die. But if you have a good plan then he will join you" Ana said.

I looked around trying to remember the drive to Murray Bridge. I turned left.

"It would be quicker to go straight" Ana said.

"Mount Barker is in that direction we can't risk it" I said.

"Yeah, But it would be cleared. We could of just made a turn off further up" Ana said.

I ignored her and kept driving. I saw dead bodies and blood all over the road. The road was so dirty. As I was driving, I thought in my head that maybe the world is trying to die. Maybe it unleashed this virus so it could get rid of the human race. Or maybe it wasn't the Earths doing and it's up to the human race to take the Earth back. Many things like this go over my head a lot. That's when I looked straight ahead. I saw a massive horde of Walkers ahead of us. I didn't have enough time to stop and turn around. I decided to put my foot on the accelerator as hard as I could.

"Shit!" Alleigh said holding the dash board.

"Hold on!" I said.

We smashed through the Walkers. I started to swerve. Slowly we went out of control. We were going right to left and I could hear our tires drifting and I could smell burnt rubber. But somehow I wasn't completely out of control of the car. The windscreen had blood all of it. It was extremely hard to see through the blood and guts all over the windscreen.

"I've never seen so many!" Alleigh said.

That's when we must of hit a large group of Walkers all standing together. Because we started to spin around in circles.

"Shit" I said.

I pushed hard on the brakes and we came to a stop. I then pushed the accelerator but the van didn't move. The wheels were spinning but we weren't moving.

"We're stuck" I said.

I winded down the window and looked around. We weren't surrounded yet. I quickly opened the door and jumped out of the van. I looked under the van and saw that there were about three Walkers trapped under the van which was pushing the back of the van in the air.

"Guys! Quick! We need to push the van!" I said.

Everyone quickly got out and got behind the van. We all pushed the van as hard as we could. I looked behind us and all around us and saw the Walkers gaining on us.

"Come on!" I said.

The van started to move. Then finally we moved it off of the bodies. But all that pushing made Josh fall forward. He landed on top of the Walkers that were under the van. The Walkers grabbed him and bit him on the neck and the arm.

"Ah!" Josh screamed while crying.

I ran in and killed both the Walkers.

"Quickly, open the back of the van!" I yelled.

Brianna opened the back of the van and we all picked up Josh and put him into the back of the van. The Walkers were now all the way up to us. I pushed a Walker away and quickly got into the van. Everyone else got in and I quickly drove away.

"Fucking hell" Alleigh said.

"Josh passed out" Ana said.

"What are we going to do about this horde? They are just going to follow us to Murray Bridge" Alleigh said.

"I know. I have an idea for that" I said.

I made sure that the horde was following us. I turned right towards Mount Barker.

"Wait there are innocent people there" Ana said.

"Would you rather Anthony or Thomas die?" I said.

I continued to drive slowly. Thats when I saw the fence of Mount Barker. I started to speed up. I smashed through the gate and then quickly drove forward, turned around and then smashed through another side of the fence. I drove back onto the road and headed back towards Murray Bridge.

"That should slow them down a bit" I said.

We continued driving towards Murray Bridge.

"Sam" Josh said.

"Yeah" I said.

"I can't. I'm going to die. I'm going to lose too much blood. I don't want to become one of those things. Just put me down, please" Josh said.

I slowly parked to the side of the road.

"Are you sure" I said.

"I'm positive" Josh said.

"Ok" I said getting out of the car.

Brianna opened the back door and I walked in. I got down on my knees. I took out my knife and put it to his head. He closed his eyes.

"I'm ready" Josh said.

"You were a great man Josh. You will be remembered" I said.

"Thank you" Josh said.

I looked away and stabbed him in the brain. I cleaned off my knife on my shirt and looked at his body. Alleigh took her coat off and put it over Josh's body. I jumped out of the van and saw blood running down from his head to the road. I looked down at my hands and noticed his blood was all over me.
