Jaira POV
Steak and Shake usually are busy during this time, but unfortunately its slow tonight. Donovan and I are sitting across from each other, trying to make conversation. I'm fiddling with my fries while he's drinking his strawberry milkshake. He sighs and looks up at me.
"So...how you like school so far?" I look up and shrugs.
"Eh it's okay. It could've been worse." He smirks and stuffs some fries into his mouth.
"Well I hate school. Not amusing...just some dumb bullshit. When we graduate half of the shit they teaching we won't even use in our future jobs."
"I wouldn't say that" I added. "I mean you are right to some degree, but some things we do learn can benefit us."
He scoffs and gives me a stare.
"You sure about that?" I nod my head. He laughs.
"Well you believe what you want. I still stand by what I said." I gulp and looks down at my food.
"Good." It gets quiet again and I feel a little tension.
"Um...where are you from?" I ask. He jumps and puts more fries in his mouth.
"Um...from Atlanta."
"Really? That's pretty far" I say chuckling. He chuckles quietly and looks at his food.
"Yeah I guess it is." He rubs his hands together and looks at me.
"What about you?"
"From Atlanta as well" I say with a grin. He smiles and laughs.
"Well why are you all the way out here?" I stop and looks down at the table. He sees me looking worried. He coughs in his hand and taps the table.
"If you don't wanna answer it's cool-"
"No. It's fine." He shrugs and slurps more of his drink. I sigh and looks at him.
"I had a bad experience out there...I'm not going to get into anymore detail about it."
"Aww well it can't be that ba-"
"It is" I say with some attitude in my voice. He scoffs and shakes his head. I sigh and asks him.
"What about you?"
"What about me?" he says with a smile.
"Why are YOU out here in LA?" All of a sudden he smile fades away. He clenches his jaw and looks down at his food.
"I had a really bad legal situation down in GA." He shakes his head and puts his cup down. He looks at me with sadness in his eyes.
"I did something that I'm not proud of, and I think about it everyday. It will never go away. I came here to redeem myself, but no matter how much I try the thoughts keep coming back." His lips starts trembling. I reach over and put my hand on top of his. He looks deep into my eyes.
"Don't worry. It'll get better. It may take a while, but I promise you it will" I say with a smile. He chuckles and his smile comes back.
" I hope you right." I laugh and whips my hair.
"I'm always right" We both laugh and he looks over at his watch.
"Oh shit we gonna be late for this movie. We should go."
"Oh yeah I almost forgot!" He gets up and collects our trays and take them over to the trash. So sweet :). I get up and walk outside towards his car. I hear him following and he opens my door for me.
