Moon Beams

The night overwhelms my senses completely. The echo of birds chirping and the wind blowing through the dried trees is enthralling. As part of the Moon Demon Tribe, I am assigned to hunt for my comrades every night. We are mostly nocturnal but on rare occasions one of the moon demons will gladly bask in the daylight. I am one of those demons. My ears prick towards a soft rustling in the leaves below. I shift my weight and prepare to drop from the cool barked tree I'm perched in. A big boar walks through the tall grass and snorts as the wind blows. At that, I release and fall right onto it's back.

The pig bucks me off onto the ground. I lunge forward and put my finger nails into its flanks.

"Damn it! Hold still you swine! I growl angrily, trying to wrangle the pig.

I hear my hunting partner, Hachiro laugh at me from the tree. My eyes narrow and a deep growl rips from my chest. He quits laughing. Good.

After the longest pig wrestling session I'd ever been through, I finally killed the boar. I throw it up on my shoulder and let out a hoarse sigh. The pig weighs a little more than I had expected.

I look up at Hachiro with his shaggy black hair and pale skin "Aren't you going to catch one too?"

Hachiro's bottom lip starts trembling "I thought we only needed one pig!"

I sigh in response "I have one pig and there are at least 15 members of the tribe as of now. You do the counting, dumb ass."

He crosses his arm and jumps out of the tree. Hachiro wheels around and sticks his tongue out at me.

"Real mature, Hachiro!" I snap and he sklinks away.

I pull the dead boar a little further up on to my shoulders and head back to the tribe. Hachiro shouldn't be too far behind me. By the time I get back, it's almost morning. The sun breaks over the horizon and brilliant rays of pink and orange highlight the sky. A light breeze passes over the clearing and rattles what leaves were left hanging on the trees. The metallic smell of blood catches my nose causing it to wrinkle upwards. Screams drown out the merry chirping of morning song birds and the gurgling of a nearby stream. The dead pig slides off my back leaving a trail of guts and blood as it hit the hard ground. Leaving the pig, I take off running as fast as my legs will carry me over the terrain. *No it can't be my family. Please no.*

Tears trail down my face as I timidly walk into our outcrop of caves. Blood covers everything and corpses lay wide eyed all over the ground. A certain body catches my eye, it's my little brother. I race over to his corpse all ripped open and drained of any color. My knees buckle under me and I fall to the muddy ground.

"No! It can't be you! It can't...." I sob pounding my pale fist into the ground.

A presence looms behind me and I hear a low snicker. I whip my body around and yank my sword from my pants. My canine teeth grow in my mouth and my usually luminous red eyes glow fiery red orange. I pull back my sword and swing it at the half demon's torso but my vision is blurt from the tears.

I growl and throw my sword down when it doesn't even scratch the man's baboon suit. "Fight me like a demon, Coward!" I bellow shoving into the suited man with the long black hair.

I pound him with my fists as his fleshy white tentacles twist around my body. He just laughs as I fight against his monstrous grip, ripping and clawing at him.

"Your struggle is futile puny moon demon." His voice is smooth and almost uncaring. It makes me sick.

"I doubt it, you big ugly brute!" I hiss and lay my claws in his sticky flesh.

His grip recoils slightly and I use that opportunity to bite into him. "Like I told you before, your struggle is futile. You should just let me absorb you!" The man says with a layer of annoyance in his voice.

I continue to struggle but his tentacles only tightens again and my breathing gets cut short. I gasp for breath but refuse to give in. "My name is Naraku and you will die now, little demon."

Naraku announces and launches me straight into the sharp rock that sticks out of the side of our cave.

It goes through my body like butter and I'm stuck there hanging from the side of the cave. I swallow and blood comes out of my mouth in a desperate cough. "Go to Hell, Naraku....."
