Meet the pod!

You stepped into your office, sitting down in the wheeled chair you had bought. It was a soft blue, with a starfish pattern. Turning to the papers on your desk, you sighed. It would take a while to sort through all the medicine orders, but you supposed this was part of the job. Just... not the fun part. Cracking your knuckles, you went to work, sorting each paper carefully, writing down the prices, ect...

----------------------------------------------------- 4 Hours Later---------------------------------------------------------

You yawned, stretching. Finally, all the paperwork was done. Standing up, you felt your back crack, the joints popping in a satisfying way. Grinning, you stepped out of your small office, looking around. It was dark now, and soft moonlight reflected off the water, illuminating the open room. As you walked to the exit, you saw bright blue eyes watching you out of the corner of your eye. You stopped and turned, cocking your head slightly. It was the same mer from before, but he wasn't alone. Beside him were 5 other mers. A grouchy white and red sea turtle, a large green manatee, a blue and pink sailfish, a smirking red seahorse and an awe inspiring blue and red whale.

'This must be the pod my father was talking about!' You realised.

The angelfish mer ficked his tail again, sending a light spray of water over your head. You giggled softly, shaking your head. You gave them a tired smile before stepping closer. The sailfish and sea turtle backed up slightly, but came back when they saw you were just going to sit down. Slowly, the angelfish mer swam closer, coming right up to the edge of the shallows, half a meter away from where you were sitting. Now that you were closer to him, you could see the bruising on his throat, and you have him a sympathetic look.

"Oh you poor thing. I still can't believe what that monster did to you. What kind of sane human being hurts an innocent mer?" You whispered, reaching forward and lightly scratching behind the mer's fins.

The mer's eyes widened for a moment, before he leaned into your touch, resting his head on your arms as you continued to scratch. He let out a short trill and began purring, his tail splashing in the water. A sharp click snapped him out of whatever trance he had been in and he spun around, disappearing under the water. He reappeared beside the sea turtle mer, who growled at him. The young mer's fins dropped as a sheepish look came over his face. He let out a small click.

While this was going on, the other mers swam closer to you. The blue whale mer swam the closest, dipping his head slightly. You felt that a creature like this should be shown proper respect, so you bowed your head fully. When you glanced back up, you saw 5 shocked faces.

"What? You show me respect, I show you respect." You said, not really expecting them to understand.

The shocked faces remained for a few more moments, before changing into more fond faces. Huh, maybe they did understand you. Slowly, the mers seemed to relax around you. The seahorse and manatee mers swam almost as close as the angelfish had, making many different whistling noises. The seahorse decided to be a bit brave and slapped his tail against the water, sending a wave of water over you. You gasped as the cold, salty water hit you, drenching you and your outfit. You blinked rapidly, mouth slightly agape. The blue whale clicked sharply, his large ear fins falling back. The seahorse almost looked guilty. He backed up when he saw the annoyed look on your face. Suddenly, water smacked him right in the face, leaving him wide eyed and bewildered.

You smirked and chuckled, crouching at the edge of the shallow water. What, did they just think you were gonna take that. You stuck your tongue out at the seahorse mer. The bewildered look disappeared and in its place was a sharp-toothed grin. He raised his tail again, silently challenging you. You chuckled darkly and narrowed your eyes.

"Bring it."
