Terran closed the car door and listened to the loud BOOM noise it made. She had just settled in and found a comfortable position when she heard Cassandra say something.
"Why is your father like that towards you? What did you ever do to him?" Cassandra said angrily.
Terran choked on air and widened her eyes at the question.
"Huh?" she said placing her hand over her chest and coughing up her confusion even though she clearly heard her.
"Oh, that's right, I'm sorry i shouldn't have asked. You don't have to answer", Cassandra said regretfully.
"No no, it's time I told you. We're best friends, we shouldn't keep secrets", Terran said clearing her throat and turning to look at Cassandra.
"No really it's okay you don't have to tell m...",
"No Cassandra, I'm telling you and that's final", she said exhaling harshly.
"Okay go ahead whenever you're ready", Cassandra said, looking at Terran and placing her hands in her lap.
Terran cleared her throat once again. There was dead silence in the small car as Terran readied herself to put it all out there.
"We were going to visit my grandmother at the hospital she had been in for months on end. She had gotten an exotic disease which was going to kill her soon so the doctor decided he was going to pull the plug and we wanted to visit one last time.
"On the way there my father had opened the window so i could get some air. At the time i was 8 and terrified of bugs so when my dad opened the window i freaked out because i didn't want bugs to land on me. He told me that there was nothing to be afraid of and then he looked back to smile at me.
"Just then my mom had screamed and then it happened. A black truck rammed into the passenger side and flipped the car." Terran choked on a sob and kept going.
"I remember screaming my head off. The landing..." she stopped suddenly and took a deep breath. "The landing was awful. We landed right side up and my dad was all cut up and bloody. I saw my mom and noticed she wasn't moving. I was telling her it was over and that she could open her eyes now... ...but she never did.
"My dad was screaming her name and shaking her body but she never moved. I told my dad it was okay and that she was just sleeping. Right after, an ambulance was called and we were taken to the hospital my grandmother was at.
"After that day my dad turned to alcohol and didn't stop. He thought it was my fault because if i hadn't freaked out he wouldn't have looked back. And after all those years of being told my mother's death was because of me... i started to believe it." Terran finished, not realizing that tears were streaming down her face at the thought of her mother.
"W-wow, I'm so sorry I didn't know you..." Cassandra began.
"It's okay it was time i told you anyway", Terran said breaking the eye contact and looking out the dirty window of the car.
Cassandra opened her mouth to say something and then closed it as no words were coming to mind.
She picked up her keys and searched through them for the one that belongs to the car. Once she found it, she placed the key in the ignition and turned, starting the car.
She had just pulled back the lever from park to drive when she remembered the mess in the room they were suppose to get.
"I almost forgot", she said pulling back into park and grabbing her keys form the small hole, "we still have to pick up that mess".
