Did that just happen? Am I dreaming right now?
Marinette kept asking herself, staring out of the window with a faraway look plastered on her light pink face.
A gentle prod in her side made the brunette turn her head to look at her BFF, Alya.
"Girl, you've been staring out that window for the past ten minutes!"
Her friend whispered, resting her chin on the palm of her hand as her suspicious eyes landed on her.
Marinette sighed to herself happily, her gaze slowly moving towards Adrien.
Alya noticed this instantly and guessed it was something to do with her biggest crush in the history of crushes.
Chuckling, Alya leaned forward, murmuring, "Is it something to do with your future love over there? Like when I saw you two holding hands earlier? Mm?"
Marinette looked back at her friend, blinking slowly with a touch of red falling upon her cheeks.
"Oh, well, maybe.."
She replied softly, looking down at her lap in silence.
Her friend just gave her a knowing grin, raising an eyebrow.
"Honestly girl, you're completely obsessed over him."
She suppressed a laugh, watching as Mari gave her a warning glare.
"Shh! The boys might hear us!"
Marinette tilted her head towards their friends in the front row where Nino and Adrien were sitting.
Less than two seconds later, Nino whipped his head to face the two girls whispering behind him, adjusting his red cap before asking, "What are you two gossiping about?"
Now, this caught the blonde's attention straight away.
His gaze soon landed on them, causing Mari to shiver awkwardly as she avoided her crush's eyes.
"O-Oh! Nothing!"
She said quickly, trying to ignore their curious stares.
Gah! I want to escape... I don't them to find out ab--
The bell suddenly rang, abruptly interrupting her thoughts but also saving her from what she would call an utter disaster.
The girl jumped up and out of her chair, grabbing Alya by the arm and ushering her towards the door.
"Erm.. See you later guys! Gotta run!"
She continued to hurry them both out of the room and away from the classroom, a sigh of relief leaving her lips.
Phew... That was too close. Who knows what would've happened if he found out the truth...
~After School~
Marinette slowly made her way over to the park, glancing up at the clear blue sky.
"Gosh, it looks lovely out today."
The fashion designer mumbled to herself, continuing on her way.
She stepped into the park, watching as a group of kids ran past her, cheering loudly.
Tikki peaked out of her owner's purse, being careful not to be seen until something caught the kwami's attention.
"Hey, Mari? What's that over there on that bench?"
The little creature pointed her tiny paw towards the bench in the distance where a strange brown substance was dripping onto the floor, creating a small puddle.
"I... I'm not sure."
Her holder responded, curiosity filling her insides as she made her way towards it.
"It looks like..."
She paused, keeling down and slowly dipping her finger into the brown liquid.
"Wait a minute! This tastes like... Toffee??"
Marinette stood there in confusion, staring down at the bench as her hand reached up to rest on her neck.
"Why in the whole of Paris would someone dump a load of sticky toffee here? This doesn't make sense."
Tikki shook her head, obviously unable to answer.
"I really don't know Marinette. It's definitely a little strange but I guess we'll never know what happened here."
Her kwami suddenly zipped back into her purse to hide as a high-pitched scream followed by a bunch of people rushing past.
Mari watched them, tilting her head to the side.
"What on earth is--"
A giant lump of the same substance came flying towards her, causing her to jump out of the way just in time before getting hit.
Out of nowhere, a loud and booming voice echoed through her ears.
"I am the one and only Candy Man! I will be the best sweet shop owner throughout all of Paris! You will all pay for not loving my sweets!"
He whipped out a small bag, digging his hand inside and throwing a handful of toffee in every direction followed by a new set of loud screams.
"Oh no! Another Akuma!"
Her kwami poked her head out once again, just as her owner clenched her fist with a grin.
"Alright. Tikki, spots--"
She was interrupted by someone quickly picking her up and leaping away, just as another piece of toffee landed where she was just standing a few seconds before.
She held onto them tightly, knowing all too well who had just saved her life.
After they were a fair distance away from the akuma, they set her down onto solid ground and grabbed her shoulders.
"You should be more careful, Mari."
Marinette looked at his green cat-like eyes, worry clearly evident within his piercing gaze.
Chat was scared for his friend, his heart cracking as he tried not to imagine what would've happened if he hadn't of spotted her and swooped in to save her.
Mari took a deep breath, looking up into the eyes of her own partner; Chat Noir.
"I'm sorry Chat and thank you. I promise I'll be more careful in the future."
The blunettte gave him a promising smile, making the hero relax.
Chat's ears twitched, another scream sounding in the distance.
He pulled out his baton, spinning around.
"Good. Now I must dash. Paris can't save itself!"
The hero flashed her a grin, jumping away with his tail flying wildly from behind.
Before he was completely out of sight, he shouted over his shoulder, "Stay safe!"
Then he was gone.
"Well, time to join Chat Noir! Tikki, spots on!"
