"Alphys... are you okay?" You watched the lizard monster as she paced the small kitchen area of the lab. Her fourth cup of coffee in the matter of an hour shaking in her claws. The impact of the prior events really taking its toll. Then again this was the first time you've seen her in 24 hours after she had whisked Mettaton off into a lab room.
The yellow monster looked over to your spot in the wheelie chair, that had somehow made its way into the basement level of the lab ,and offered a small smile that was so fake that it looked drawn on. "O-of course!" You quirked an eyebrow at her. Your face showing that you did not believe her one bit. "I-I am! Just... a little stressed, y'know?"
Stressed was an understatement. Ever since Sans teleported her back to her old home, the royal scientist has been working on Mettaton until he wasn't a danger to himself or others anymore. The lab she had worked on the idol in stayed closed for an entire day. You had the time to explore a good chunk of Hotland alone by the time that she emerged from the room. Noted, you didn't get very far in your exploration. Monsters kept trying to initiate encounters and the heat was just overbearing. Mettaton was supposed to show you around but he was still in disrepair. Everyone else was busy. There was so much to do.
News of the cave-in had already spread and it was chaos. Some people were appalled. Monsters were people and here they were being attacked for the sole reason of being different. Terrorized. Supporters began rising out of the woodwork completely outraged. Others were claiming that it was a hoax. Monsters have been above ground for almost two years. The novelty of their existence diminishing considerably, for better and for worse. So some people were claiming it was a ruse to make humans look bad. While others were saying that it was just a cry for attention. Countless rumors were spreading as to why anyone would even bother to attack the monsters' old underground home.
Both sides were at an all out war on every social media that you could find. Thanks to the fact that Asgore knew about the attack so soon, he was able to organize efforts for damage control well in advance but, even with the small advantage, he was making little ground. There was just to many people and to many theories. Not to mention that he was getting flooded by his own people with worries about family members trapped under the mountain. You did not envy his position at all.
Toriel had even stepped up to help him and they were still overwhelmed. So to say that everyone was "stressed" was a massive understatement.
Your phone buzzed and you gave Alphys an authoritative glare. "Finish that cup and then do something to calm down. I noticed that your old computer has a bunch of visual novels downloaded on it. Use them to take a break and wind down. Then you are going to take at least an hour nap." When the scientist went to respond, your look darkened and she immediately shut her mouth. "I understand that you want to keep helping but no one expects you to keep going at this pace. You aren't a robot. Promise me, Alphys, or else I'll go tell Undyne you aren't taking care of yourself."
The yellow lizard gasped in dismay as she read your signs. "Y-you wouldn't..."
You arched your brow at her again. "Try me."
"Okay... y-yes, you would. I'll go try that Doki Doki one that people k-keep talking about." Alphys set the mug on the counter before heading back down to the old macintosh computer and you couldn't help but feel satisfied with yourself. It was normally a lot harder to get the small monster to take care of her body. Yes, you did threaten to bring her girlfriend into it but that was besides the point.
Ignoring the TV that was playing, you brought your phone up to see who had messaged you. A smile being brought to your face when you saw that it was BP. With Mettaton currently out of commission, it had been left up to you to get a hold of the cat monster and tell him what exactly was going on. While working as a collaboration, the cat monster was now looking after the studio while helping Asgore when he could, after you had told him that your stay underground was going to be longer than anticipated. You sighed to yourself. If only your magic could be useful in situations like this.
