The summer of 2014 was slowly coming to an end, and I found myself sitting on my bed, eating ice cream until two in the morning, and watching Cake Boss on Netflix. Most of my summer nights have consisted of locking myself inside my home, keeping myself away from any form of socialization with the human species. It was almost the beginning of August and I was beginning to realize that I leave for college in a month. A college that is away from my best friend, Carrie. She was my rock all throughout high school and now I barely hung out with her. My college is only three hours away from home, however Carrie is going back home to Maryland for college. I would probably only see her over the summer.

I woke up the next morning feeling lousy. I decided that I would unlock my doors and try to find something productive to do. Most people about to go to college, would have a job over summer, but my parents told me my job was to focus on my plans for school. During most of my days I would plan and think, but at night I dove into Netflix. Today I was making a change.

I told myself I need to stop worrying, stop planning, and start living. I walked down the street to Carrie's house and rang the door bell twice.

Her lovely mom, Rebecca, answered the door, "Vida! I haven't seen you since June! Where have you been all this time?"

"Locked inside my house to be completely honest," I laughed.

"Well come inside dear. Carrie will be delighted to see you!" She opened the door wide enough so that I could step inside.

Rebecca called for Carrie, and when she came downstairs she pulled my into a tight huge, "I missed you so much! Come to my room, I have to catch you up!"

We literally ran up the steps, and I plopped down onto Carrie's queen sized bed. Carrie started talking but after a while I kind of zoned out. She wasn't the same. She started talking about all the people she wasn't going to miss, instead of the people she was going to miss. Then she told me some gossip that I didn't care about, and told me how excited she is to leave this city. After about thirty minutes of hearing her yap, I decided I had to go home.

"I'm leaving on Saturday, come say bye!" Carrie begged me.

        I made no promises.
