I'm Phoenix Villareal, and today I turned 6 years old. When I ran downstairs this morning daddy said I'm officially a big girl now. Then I sat at the table eating my special birthday pancakes with Auntie Lilith, Uncle Jaime, Grandma, Grandpa and Daddy. I asked Daddy where mummy was. He said not to worry, and that she was still in bed, so I ate the rest of my breakfast.
After breakfast, it was time to open my presents. I didn't want to do this part without mummy though, so I snuck upstairs to wake mummy up. But she was already awake, she was in the shower! I decided that she would would be down in a few minutes, so I sat down on the sofa I waited. I ended up waiting about 20 minutes before she actually showed up.
When she finally came down after her shower, she mumbled morning and sat down next to daddy on the sofa, giving him a kiss on the cheek. I ran and gave her a big hug. She gently pushed away from me. "Why are you hugging me?" she asked. "Because it's my birthday, mummy!" I exclaimed, eager to open the massive pile of presents in front of me. I forgot mummy doesn't like hugs.
I began with the small parcel at the front. I opened the envelope. The card had a big pop-up heart on the front and it read 'Happy birthday, we love you so much!'. Inside I could tell is was written by Grandma. Yes, there it was at the bottom, 'lots of love, Grandma Emma and Grandpa Max xx'. Inside the gift wrap was a beautiful doll, with gorgeous black hair and a red dress. She looked just like me! I ran over to my grandparents and hugged them. They hugged me back.
Then, from my Aunt and Uncle, I got some really cute socks with little bears on the knees. After that, there was just one present left in the pile. It was wrapped in the most beautiful paper, black with gold and silver shiny writing reading 'birthday girl'. I smiled at daddy and he smiled back. I opened the card which had writing on the front that said 'To my beautiful daughter'. Inside the card, it was signed 'Love Daddy x'. I began to open the gift. It was a gorgeous dress with black and red sequins. My two favourite colours. I ran over to daddy and squeezed him tight, him kissing me softly on the cheek. I loved him so much, and I knew he loved me too.
I ran into my bedroom to change into my new dress. I looked in the mirror, I looked like a different person entirely! As I was strapping my red shoes on, I realised that there was no present from mummy in the pile. That was weird. "Oh well," I thought to myself, she probably just forgot, she's like that. I ran back downstairs and sat on daddy's lap.[Authors Note]
