"I'd like to thank every one of my investors for believing in my company and our vision. Also I would like to convey a very special thank you to my loving wife, Camilla, and our beautiful daughter, Arcadia!"
The smile that I practiced in the mirror twice a day found its way to my mouth as the audience cheered.
"I feel so honored tonight to be awarded the key to our marvelous city of Melior. I want to finish tonight by saying that it's you, the wonderful citizens of this great city, that have made everything my company has done a reality. I thank you."
I stood from my seat and applauded witht the rest of the crowd. I watched my father wink ad wave one last time before descendng the stage stairs to join my mother and I at our table.
"Father you did amazing up there!" I said, giving him a quick squeeze before taking my seat next to him.
"Thank you Sugar Bear! Listen, to celebrate, why don't you invite your friends over tomorrow night and we'll cater in that Greek food that you love!" He said, giving me a kiss on the cheek.
I beamed and started to nibble at the meal they had just served.
There was a constant stream of traffic surrounding our table; people lining up to shake my fathers hand or give him a pat on the back. I didn't blame them though, my father was the most amzing person I had ever met. He was CEO of Borr Enterprises and a self-made millionaire. His company created inventions that made everyone's lives easier and everyone in Melior loved him, including me.
I watched as people I had never met before come up one by one but my father seemed to know them all. Sometimes I felt like I had to share him with the entire city, but that was just part of our lifestyle.
"Let's go get something to drink."
I jumped at the tingle of someone's hot breath in my ear and turned to my left to see the cute dimpled smirk of my boyfriend.
"I think you've forgotten that we're only 18!" I said, matching his smirk.
"You're Arcadia Borr! They can't deny you anything!"
"And you're Preston Simms but that doesn't mean we can get away with underage drinking." I whispered, giving him a mischevious smile.
"Well what if I told you that we aren't going to ask the bartender for it." He whispered back, grabbing my hand underneath the table. "Come with me".
"And where do you think you are taking my daughter Mr. Simms?" My father asked, taking a sip of his bourbon,
"I'm just going to show her the news plans my dad has for the expansion of th city wall." Preston
answered cooly.
"You're father, always trying to add to his territory." My father quipped. He raised his glass to us and Preston and I were groomed well enough to know that was his way of saying goodbye.
I followed Preston through the crowd until we were out of the ballroom. We walked wordlessly until we were standing in front of his dad's office.
"Are you sure we can go in here?" I said nervously.
"One of the perks of being the mayor's son is that you can't get in trouble" He smiled, pushing the door open.
Preston's dad, Roy Simms, was the mayor of Melior. He and my father had been friends since college and he was one of first ones to invest in Borr Enterprises. Preston and I were the "lifelong friends turned couple" couple of Melior.
I walked on tiptoe to the Mayor's desk and leaned against it. Blueprints covered almost the entire surface of the monsterous desk. I looked over them while I heard Preston mixing some drinks at the bar in the corner.
"So your father really wants to expand the wall?" I asked, still examining the specks. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Preston set a glass of brown liquid next to me. I felt his breath on my neck a giggled, taking a quick swig of my drink.
"You really don't care about the wall, do you?" I turned to face him.
"Nope." He smirked, kissing me.
It was a simple kiss but it soon turned to something more. I ran my hands thorough his hair and he picked me up and set me down gently on the desk. I reached for his shirt but fumbled over my own fingers. He broke the kiss and chuckled lightly before taking the shirt off himself.
"You're so cute when you're flustered." He whispered.
I offered an embarrssed smile and then leaned forward to press my lips to his neck. The dress I was wearing had buttons all the way down the front and he stared un-fastening them with each kiss. I pushed all the papers off the desk and laid on my back with Preston and I still attached at the mouth. His hands started to travel down until voices started to approach the door.
I froze with Prestin hovering over me. I listened a second longer to recognize the Mayor's voice along with my father's.
Preston jumped down immediately and picked his shirt up off the ground while I tried to button my dress back up.
The knob turned slowly and I gave Preston a panicked look. He was still trying to tuck his shirt in and I still had 3 more buttons to go when the door swung open.
